Wow turns out recording your desktop in linux is quite the experience LOL. Here is some footage of buttons playing back videos. Blue = normal button action , grey is highlighted and red is depressed. The video isn't smooth due to the capture software dropping frames it looks like. After several takes this was the best i managed to get :)

Yes it i used theora for the buttons. I'll be posting a resource shortly. It currently needs some cleaning up.

Recently for videoing linux apps, I've ended up using apple's X server and Snapz Pro X. I know, it's cheap, but it works.

Pretty cool work here. This effect looks a lot better in the video than I had it pictured in my head. I hope TGB people will be able to access this resource too, if so I'll probably mess around with it.
