Determinance Cloth Pack

Hey guys.

In case you missed it, Determinance has been released. We're having a fantastic reaction, and it really is very exciting.
A lot of people want to know whether we're going to make our cloth code publically available. My current plan is to release it in about 3 months as a Pack for $20. Releasing it for money allows me to put some work into making it extremely user friendly, with a gui for setting the cloth hit-elipses and so on.
I wanted to float that idea here, and see what everyone thinks about it. You can see exactly what you'll be getting in the Determinance demo. The cloth code is really very fast. We have two forms of cloth collision - "good", which is slower and we only generally put on "your" character (ie the one you see all the time), and "not especially good" which will quite often go through the legs, which is extremely fast.
So - do people think $20 is a fair price?
Ah yes, you can see the cloth code in full effect on this, er, rather strangely posed Determinance character. Marketing will be SO PLEASED that I've drawn more attention to this one.

Determinance looks great!

I'm already looking under the couch cushions for change! $20 is quite reasonable. Do you take pre-orders?Determinance looks great!

When you price code packs you need to ask yourself "how much would it cost someone if they implemented it themselves?". If i had to implement this i would spend ... i'd say at the very least 20 hours, but most likely more to completely implement, debug, and optimize it. My time is worth much more than $1 per hour... your price is a steal. ;)

I agree with Tom. The price is an extreme steal!

The price is very outstanding.

EDIT: Oh and yep price is a steal. Depends on the level of ease of use for non-programmers, ya should up it to 50 or 99.

Is as good as bought man. Can you make it faster? *pokes teasing*EDIT: Oh and yep price is a steal. Depends on the level of ease of use for non-programmers, ya should up it to 50 or 99.

And I agree with Thak. Have a commercial version for $99. Depending on it's useability - ie ability to apply it to existing models and new models, and ability to craft our own clothes then I would say you might wanna charge around $40 for the indie version and maybe up to $200 for commercial version. But have a cut-down version for the budget conscious. $20 is a good budget price.

I agree with Alan - way too inexpensive for me :)And I agree with Thak. Have a commercial version for $99. Cue rockin' Queen soundtrack...

Oh and dude... make a Highlander patch for Determinance - use urban content and minimise the flying and have lots of decaps... sooo cool! Quote: Better to burn out, than to fade away

so if you could make the collision perform better and if you could add something to adjust the weight of the cloth then this would be a pretty neat package

hmm, i liked the cloths in determance but i saw a lot when the cloth just gos trough legs and arms and it moves really fast like it it realy realy light weightso if you could make the collision perform better and if you could add something to adjust the weight of the cloth then this would be a pretty neat package

I think $20 is a good price :-), its not too high to make people wonder if its a feature they'll use, you want to get the people who really want it and the ones that go yeah that looks cool, I could use that one day... :-)
I wouldn't really be tempted at a much higher price personally, depends on how much you want it I suppose.
I'm guessing its TGE only, TGEA?

Well I feel it depends how easy it is to use like is it just attached to a model via a mount point?I think $20 is a good price :-), its not too high to make people wonder if its a feature they'll use, you want to get the people who really want it and the ones that go yeah that looks cool, I could use that one day... :-)

Edit: O and any plans for a TGEA release?
02/23/2007 (5:05 pm)
Yea I think that would be a great idea, and very nice price :) How easy it would be to implement would be my biggest factor when deciding whether or not to purchase.Edit: O and any plans for a TGEA release?

Basically, how does it work on the models?
02/23/2007 (6:40 pm)
Great. finally a pack i would buy. But i'd need to know how the cloth works. Is there any more details of the surface properties you'd have to set on them.... like a surface name or something?Basically, how does it work on the models?

Also, that character looks stoned.

Just to reiterate. $20 is selling yourself ridiculously short, especially given the amount of work you're going to have to do to turn it into a pack and ship it.Also, that character looks stoned.

As for ease of use, that's an absolute definite. This will be easy to install, and a modeller simply has to tie any cloth vert to a node called "cloth" - extremely straight-forward. Setting up the hitboxes will take a bit of time, but is only a one-off thing.
Florian, indeed sometimes the Determinance cloth looks a little light. I'll need to play around with the constants to see if the system can get slower moving stuff.
I'll look again at the price. I'm very reluctant to over-charge, so I'll take a look at all the other packs and see where I think this one fits in.
