Introduction/TGEA Demo "New" look

by Florian · 02/20/2007 (5:48 am) · 14 comments

hey,
As this is my first blog, i will properly introduce myself, some of you have seen me around GG before, some of you might not, but anyway
I am Florian Van Damme, I am 15 years old and I live in the Netherlands.
I have been interested in the game buisness since I was a little kid, and since i think 2003/2004 my friend, Vincent van Delden, invited me in a project of his. Also at school i was given an introduction at 3d modeling with truespace 3.2. As this kinda evolved, Vincent bought Torque and I got my hands on better tools and kept improving my skills. As now, I am a 3D modeler and Texture artist and i like it a lot ^^.

But anyway, that was my introduction, now a bit more about the projects I am working on.
On of them is D.O.R.C., my first project in torque, but as we(vincent and me) gotten better this project somehow lost our interest over time and now we're not actively working on this project.

Another is (Fuck)head Racer, it began as a minigame for a character for DORC but this kinda became a game of itself.

Another is a combat simulator in TGEA, we have a lot of great ideas for this game, and its gonna rock(i hope)!
But i cant tell too much about it.

Outside of any projects I screw around a lot in TGE/TGEA and I had this idea of changing the face of the TGEA demo mission and make it all worn out and used up!
So I started to make some art for this ^^. Check it out! :D
its more kinda a container containing some sort of biological/chemical weapon

the model itself is around 6000polys and it has 3 maps, difuse, bump and spec all 1024*1024 but i brought this down to a model of +-100polys with a normal map

I like the object itself...reminds me of a prop from the Fallout series. Very nice. Good call on lowering it down to 100 polys =)

Why did you need to drop the Fbomb again? I thought last time you said you would change the name?

@Stephan
thanx you, I will try to make the whole TGEA demo look like this, all beat up

@Vashner
Well we haven't decided a new name yet so thats why i said "(fuck)"

Btw as you might notice, the ingame shot hasnt got speculars so thats something that will be added later on

Someone is in bad need of attention.

I think all these puritans are the ones in the need of attention... geez.

If you stopped making a big deal out of it, it wouldn't be such a big deal. He'd be ignored.

If you're so offended, why post at all?

Not all Torquers are children, and this may be a shocker, but adults sometimes use naughty language. Are Mature games not welcome in the GarageGames community? That would be a sad state.

@Vashner : LOL the Fbomb again, sorry but the F.... (dotted to keep the puritans away) word is soo much used everywhere from songs to movies or just plain language that I think it has as much meaning than saying "Sugar". Nice try to do that to protect children though, but they use it more than you could imagine.

By the way Florian, nice work.

thank you, and
@Stefan
i dont really see your whole point
do you think your to "mature" to talk to me? is it that because i'm workin on a game with a title with "the f word"(to think i actually described it this way(makes me think of south park :D)) that i'm a little child whom u dont wish to speak to?
like Ed said, if u think i need attention and you're bothered by it, why would you even respond to such a "call for attention". And also i dont see the difference between my blogs and other peoples first blogs... there are a lot of people who introduce themselves in their first blog and even ask for attention like, can someone help me out, I don't see any problem with that as I think that is perfectly normal,i also think that it is polite(someone saying fuck is polite, OMG, this cant be true 0.o) to introduce themselve.

As to many people who would say, dont pay attention to that guy, or dont be bothered with him, i'm not ;), im just curious about his motives to post such a useless comment

@Florian:

Eh, who knows. I know when something bugs me, its hard not to say something. That's understandable.

About using .plans for 'blogs': As long as it is talking about game development, and you don't use a misleading title, you can post almost anything. Don't forget the obligitory pictures though! ;-)

PS. Notice how the first few posters didn't make any comments whatsoever? Take a deep breath... the world is not crumbling. :-)

I feel the use of curse words in the title of a game instantly put it in the "Crappy","juvenile" and "Not to be taken seriously, even if game play is good" category. It will automatically give your game a stigma. I'm not saying i fell this way, but the majority of the world would.

With an interesting idea like the one you have, why cheapen it with a name that will instantly put people off.

Funny, you start out saying "I feel..." then end the paragraph with "I'm not saying I feel this way..."

I do believe using curse words can give a game a stigma to some people. Those people don't have to play. Simple enough. Vote with your time/money... or ignore him.

I'm really upset at the attitude of some people here, especially the broad generalization of "the majority of the world". A statement like that is less mature, IMHO, than an offensive word. Maybe I'm in the minority.

EDIT: Anyway, I really don't want to stir stuff up, just shocked at some of the attitudes here. I'm of the mindset: "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"

well, u probebly are, but i dunno what the guy said at the end of one of the star trek movies, but it was something that the opinion of the minority may be superior to the opinion of the majority
anyway, what kinda suprises me is that the small part in the blog that is about "fuck"head racer is the main subject in the comments .. :P

I'm just trying to convey that curse words in titles of game my not be the best idea. But it depends on your expectations for your project.

Theses kinds of responses (all of them) should be something your prepared for however.
