CNMI: Fun with DEMs

by Alan James · 02/12/2007 (6:26 pm) · 20 comments

Hi Everyone,

First off I'd like to appoligize to everyone I haven't gotten back in contact with. I just have been swamped in real life and with a dozen little things. It's like death by a thousand cuts. Anyway, Ian, Thak, and others I'm sorry, but I'll try to get an email off to everyone within the next day or so.

Here is a little of what I've been working on, mostly Geo DEM Maps for TGE and CN:MI. I've mapped out the gameplay, content, keys, pickup points etc. for the first three levels of the Game, so I should have a prototype gameplay level(s) in a few weeks. We're still Alpha/Beta early on, but I've fleshed out a lot of the things that I can do and what I can't do, so that's really going to help move ahead again.

I've also got three other projects on the back/side burner, all of which are no where near as massive as CN:MI. I'll try to put up some info about them on GGE and maybe post another .Plan/Blog about them later this week also.

Anyway, here are some screenshots of the DEM/Levels I've been working on.

@MB6019

It's TGE. But the base code for CN:MI has been a bit...modified...

Great looking stuff! I especially like how you used the skybox and fog to bring the scene together. Great work Alan!

Are you able to map an aerial photograph over the entire terrain as the base colour map?

@Andy

You know, I don't believe so, but I could be wrong. The DEM BMPs are only 256x256, so I would imagine that even you could use an aerial image it would be more than likely limited in the same manner and the results would be less than desireable.

@All

Thanks for the encouragement, hopefully have some "Monster" content in the near future share along with everything else.
