Magic System

Alright, I think I finally stumbled onto a very good idea for a magic system for my game I am hacking together. I have been playing with Conway's Life and decided it could be a really good basis for a magic systems. Basically the idea revolves around glyphs that are actually life game instances and are running or launched by the magic user. Imagine a wizard thrusting his staff into the ground and fire starts errupting where ever there is a live cell node in the life sim that is launched. Also imagine an opposing wizard sending a protection or disruption life program into the ground that collides with the first volley. Depending upon what the cells do according to the life logic all hell could break loose or it could just fizzle out. This could be a way of making magic systems more magical again. Yes, the rules are defined, but in such a chaotic environment who knows what will happen!? The players (and NPCs) themselves could be part of the equation and affect what happens in the sim as well.
Alright, enough ranting. On to programming...

i would suggest you pick up the Afx pack, it might be a good option for your magic system.
