Saying Wee! With the Wii

Alright, this may be an uneducated guess or even an understatement, but I think people with a Nintendo Wii are currently having more fun than those who got a Playstation 3.

I have been a huge advocate for Nintendo's new idea ever since it was announced. Thank god they went in this direction. Games are finally being revitalized, and ultimately games are actually fun to play all over again. It's all about enhancing the interaction with the games, DDR is a huge example. While I never really got into DDR, or dancing for that matter, it was largely popular mostly because of the man and machine interaction. No longer are controllers telling the game what to do, Wii do what wii want it to do.

I have seen the tech demo's for Super Monkey Ball, Madden 07, Zelda, Wii Sports, it all just looks incredibly fun. While the launch titles may be fantastic, it's merely the very beginning, and I think wii are going to see some new classics glistening straight out of the Nintendo Wii in due time.

People complain about the graphics. So what? If anything this allows developers to focus less on creating pretty graphics, and focusing more on the actual gameplay - something I feel is desperately needed. Ultimately, this brings me into the Indie thinking zone.

I hope GarageGames looks into the Wii with Torque. I really do. Yes Torque X is a fantastic thing, but a Torque Wii would be even better. Why?
Wii don't need to focus completely on the graphics anymore. Indie's don't have the money, time, talent, teams and resources to pour into these games. I'm not saying indie's are all a bunch of untalented misfits, I'm saying some of us have the passion to create a great game, but are in no position to do so.

If Indie games can be more fun to play and create, why not give it a chance?

Wii Torque would be amazing. I think GG is REALLY buddy buddy with Microsoft now so I don't know if it will happen.

You know I could not agree more with you on this, The Nintendo Wii is an amazingly cool system, I kicked my friends ass on Wii sports bowling last night. I have not had that much fun playing a game in a long time.... YES BOWLING IS AWESOME. He beat me to a pulp in Boxing though :(

My point is GG should pair up with Nintendo, since Nintendo is opening their doors to indie game developers. So why not make Torque readily available with the Wii in mind.

My same friend owns a PS3 too, and he has played it once lol, he has be playing Wii almost non-stop hahaha. The PS3 is a true powerhouse though, hands down an amazing system, lots of amazing games e.t.c but I think Nintendo Wii is much more fun, I mean come on, I broke a sweat playing boxing for crying out loud. Get your ass off the couch and play.

wii is just a clever method of making people work out
but really if I had the extra money I'd pick one up and I already own an xbox 360 which I don't play much

viva la VFX1!

I am in total support of the wii, that's where my money is going.

"If anything this allows developers to focus less on creating pretty graphics, and focusing more on the actual gameplay"

I don't think this is true, developers will be just as free to make crappy graphics on the other consoles. It's not all gonna look as good as gears of war...and likewise developers will be just as able to make amazing graphics on wii, look at Resident Evil 4.

it's all about the artists.

I picked up a Wii and I am in love. I played for 11 hours on release day... I haven't actually sat down and played games in ages, but the Wii.. wow.

Zelda is awesome, and even the simple Wii sports is addicting, especially with a group of 4.

I can only imagine some of the games avail or soon-to-come here on the Wii. Think Tanks, Marble Blast, Illumina, it would all be 10x more fun and enthralling.

I got a Wii sunday moring and i must say its the most fun i have had in a long time.. my and my buddy had so much fun with the Wii sports :boxing that my back and lats are actually sore from the workout!! Zelda is absolutely fantastic it has the feel of Ocarina of Time with some of the same sounds and music, while using the Wiimote to swing the sword is awsome! if you shake the nunchuck side to side you do Links spin attack .. its great fun.. the Dragon Ball Z fighting game is a bit harder to just pick up .. you have to know exact motions for super moves.. but its still alot of fun.

I agree it'd be awesome, but it's really up to Nintendo and thus far, they haven't been very open about community development. I know, they've said things about having downloadable content on the Wii from smaller developers, but, I'll wait and see on that one. The Wii seems like the perfect platform for indie games, though, and I'd love to see Nintendo open up and let more people into the party.

I just played it for the first time and it is swiit! There was a flying mini-game where you flap your wings/arms and dive, and the immersion was amazing! Like you said "it's all about enhancing the interaction with the games" -- graphics are one way, but interface is another. Amazing stuff.

Total, 100% support for this. I couldn't care less about all the DirectX crap that's being shoved into Torque, being a Mac and Linux guy myself. But I'd be very, very much interested in Torque for the Wii. Very much. Did I say "very"?

Well, here's my thought. Torque is really just middleware, the barrier to getting a game on the Wii is not the engine, it's a publisher. If you build a good enough game, you can probably find someone to publish it on the Wii. If you want to develop for the wiimote controls, there is a package that you can download called glovepie that will allow you to use the bluetooth motion sensing functionality. I'm not too sure about the IR, but I think that is mainly used to sense the distance from the TV.
