Community Weekend (Not-IGC)

www.taco-casa.com/taco.jpgHey guys,

So, the community weekend has begun. Let me express this clearly:

I ate Mexican with John Kabus, Tom Bampton, and David Wyand.

Just now!

Isn't that crazy?

It's like some sort of incredible alignment of planets caused us all to collect - accrete if you will - at Daniel's.

And tomorrow a bunch of other associates will be rolling in. In theory everything starts Friday or so. But people show up early. They stay late. We have meetings. Dinner. Lunch. Checking cool demos out. Stimulating conversation. So, practically, my inbox fills up starting tomorrow, and by the time I get back to it on Tuesday or so, it's pretty full.

www.windows.ucar.edu/headline_universe/images/alignment_sm.jpg If it wasn't GMail, and I didn't have like another 2 gigs to go, I might be concerned about it filling up. So no sending me any huge attachments.

I put a picture of space in for two reasons. First to demonstrate planetary alignment and second to demonstrate the vastness of the empty space in my inbox. Pretty slick eh?

So in conclusion... All the GG guys are gonna fall off the face of the planet for the next four or five days. If you're an associate or otherwise attending community weekend, you'll get info on what's up schedule wise very soon now. Everyone else... carry on! Make awesome games! We'll be back among the living soon!

Hey, Daniel's is awesome. It doesn't take planetary alignment to get people to go to Daniel's.

Anyhow, see you tomorrow Ben. This weekend is going to be a blast

Perhaps this planetary alignment means that when someone asks if I wanna go eat, I won't have brought food for once and can go talk to the elders. I cannot wait.

Ok, so you canceled IGC because of lack of time. Yet everyone will be gone for a week for a "non-igc" event. I don't get it..

The "lack" of time wasn't the time for the event. It was the lack of time we needed to track down sponsors, get equipment, plan the event, prepare the sessions, get speakers, create the demo materials, and a *ton* more work that goes into such an event.

plus 2 out of the next file days are weekends (not that we don't work on weekends at times) and a lot of it will be either during the weekend or at night... we really are trying to make sure it doesn't impact our development.

@Ben

Well then let us hope that your inbox does not become so massive that normal physical properties cease to apply. At which point your super massive inbox would collapse on itself resulting in a singularity. At which point no email on this planet will be able to escape your gmail inbox. Not even waves of light will be able to escape it.

The fate of the universe is in your hands...

@David
Space-Time can create quite a quandary.

I'm about to hook up my Coffee IV - got one of those new iPod thingies yesterday for the trip - bringing my rain coat in case this is one of those rare occasions that it rains in Oregon - now just have a 12 hour drive.

Four or Five days of downtime (probably less, since I think that most of us will continue working until Friday) is very much different from the weeks of downtime that IGC causes, plust multiple months of prep work on the part of many of our marketing types, who we are running a bit short of.

Believe me, we miss IGC as much as anyone, but it was a strategic impossibility to get it all organized on time this year. We figured it was better to not do it at all than to do it poorly.

Just so everyone knows - we scaled down our IGC plans to basically have it be just a weekend with our associates. But they like to show up a bit early. :P

So really we lose a little more than a weekend, but it's still much much less intensive than the weeks or months of effort that it takes to line up the speakers, rent the space, do the legal work, figure out the schedule, etc.

And next year we definitely want to have it back. :)

Okay, okay, I'll take this on, since nobody seems to be jumping up to the plate. Anybody else out there need a beer drunk for them?

Yay, I'm here in Eugene (actually been here since last night, just had to get some sleep after the horrible flight =).
