Plan for Chris

I'm disappointed because I didn't receive the '2001 Garage Games Best Plan
Award' last post ... So I'll make this one better.

I finally caught that mouse ! (Refer to last post) ... If you're a member of P.E.T.A, you
will be happy to know that the mouse died a long, slow and painful death ;-).

Game Programming
(1) The present state of my 3d engine is awesome (Understatement), I'm glad I
made the decision to continue working on new features and routines rather than
making a game with it when it was in it's infancy.
(1.5) *Invented a new Shadow Algorithm which (by mistake) can also handle decals
... you don't even have to clip them !!! Unfortunately there is a slight performance hit
with this method, but it's not as bad as your regular Shadow Volume. I'm still
impressed over how much realism shadows bring to your game ... amazing ... ..
simply amazing !
(2) The 3d modeller is coming along well ... sadly I'll have to put it on hold until the
engine is finished.
(3) Sorry no free utilities this time ...
(4) Made a new Material Editor ...
(5) All games (3) are on hold until the engine is finished ...
(6) That's it ... the engine is taking away all of my time ;-).
(7) I really want a GeforceIII, but since I quit my job I'm getting a GeforceII MX ( Sorry KyroII, I need the TNL ) ...
(8) I'm starting to have doubts about Game Programming ... .. which has never quite happened before, Don't get me wrong game programming is my #1 bitch and I'm a firm believer that talent will get you far in the industry. But if things don't work out in 3 years time, don't be surprise to see my playing the "Plumber' in 'Laying Pipe 8" ... Yep, it's either game programming or porn for me!
But seriously, I need to start releasing my programs rather than having them die on my computer ...
To Do
(1) Complete the 3d Engine ... and determine it's future (free or commercial)
(2) Finish the 3D Level Editor
(3) Finish the commercial 3d modeller ... I need the cash ... badly (Quit my job)
(4) Kick Greg's ass ... long story
(5) Update my web site
(6) Get some new Herpes medication
Graphics
I'm pretty much done 'learning' 3d modeling. I can proudly/sadly say that 95% of
techniques out there are useless for me and the only way I can produce commercial
quality work is though vertex modeling.
I played around with Doga this month ( Thanks to Eric for recommending it) it's pretty
much a good foundation for the future 3d products I predicted.
Research
Anime Style Fighting: Yes, I actually researched this ... it's not like I did nothing but
watch DragonBallZ all day ;-).
Better AI: Turned out to be worse AI.
Alternative Modeling Techniques: The most interesting thing I came up with is the
use of ordinary graph paper and a spoon. What's the spoon for ? I'll never tell ... ..
MOHAHAHAHAHA !!!
... other stuff ( Secret)
If you want to help me with alternative modeling routines just e-mail me at
teenie-sex.com (I'm there all the time just ask for Chris) or at
senorp_4e@hotmail.com.
Well that's it ... .. if this plan doesn't get me the award < shaking fist at sky > nothing
will !!! ...
Until next time ... remember: "You can get A.I.D.S from butt sex too !!!"

#2
The engine was actually finished a month ago. I'm pretty much doing research right
now ( One of the perks of being independent ), my focus mainly being alternative
scene management algorithms and shadows.
Here are some features:
2d
Animation
Transparency
Translucency
Translation, Rotation and Scaling
Ropes
Lens Flares
Decals ... bullet holes YIPPEE !
Lights
Particle Effects
Realistic Physics Engine
Cheesy Screen Effects ... they are cheesy
Bmp, Targa, Jpeg support
... many more
3d
Fog
Lights (Point, Spot or Directional ... color optional)
Shadows ( Projected, Shadow Volumes, Sp_Shadows ( New algorithm )
Billboards
Coronas
Lens Flares
Lasers
Particle Effects
Projectiles (Bullets, rockets ...)
Stage Lights
Sun
Full Scene Antialising
Material Shaders
Spherical Mapping
Bump Mapping
Silhouette Rendering (Cartoon)
Realistic Physics Engine
Regular Models
Hierarchy Models
Tweening Models
Boned Models < smirk >
Texture Filtering (Bilinear, Trilinear and Anisotropic)
Collision Detection (Sphere, BB, Ray to Face, Face to Face, Vertex to face)
Scene Management ( Black Hole (Secret Technique) )
Full Direct X 8.0 Support
... many more
That's straight from my head so I probably left out allot of things ... hopefully by this
time next month I'll be finished researching and I'll make some demos.

Glad you like Doga--Haven't tried Doga L3 yet. I don't know if its out.
How far along are you with your 3d engine?
