Upcoming $1000 Torque MMORPG Contest

by Dave Young · 09/25/2006 (7:14 am) · 9 comments

When working on something cool like the MMOKIT, made for Indie developers to get started quickly with, now and then we get a neat idea to fuel some fires and get people working! We already do SVN hosting and for teams and can setup forum areas for them so they can have a place to get intouch with the other members of the MMOKIT community, and now we are announcing the upcoming 90-day Build your Dream Game contest.

This contest is sponsored by Dream Games, Inc. and is intended for TGE/MMOKIT developers, or TSE/TITAS developers.

Here are the Contest Rules.

The contest will kick off when MMOKIT 1.5 is out of Release Candidate cycles and is ready for final release, sometime in about 2 weeks if the bug stomping can continue quickly! This gives you time to get your team together and start working :)

We promise that we will put in more tutorials into the growing manual, so you will not be left in the dark when developing, though you should be sure to include a good scripter or two in your team :)

Get your team together, get a design up, and get ready to register!

Sounds like a cool idea.

I was toying with the idea of purchasing the MMOkit when I got paid next. But now, with this announcement, I'm sold on getting it!!! I'm not buying for the sake of the contest, which I probably won't enter. I feel with each update of Torque, the release of XNA, and now this, the indie game scene is going to become a noticeable flame in the game dev world. I hope many enter! Burn baby burn!

I read the contest rules, but is anyone in the world allowed to enter? Or is it only for those in the USA?

I have a couple questions about the rules that I'll ask over on your site.

After thinking about this since reading the post about 10 hours ago I've already started jotting down my game design and used my non-gaming wife as a sounding board. She likes it so I think I have a good idea.

I already have several pages for the game and am now fleshing out the details so to speak.

I'm definetly going to make a go at this contest!

What does "free publishing" mean?

@Alan Hembra, Anyone with a TGE/MMOKit license, or TSE/Titas license may enter, so pick up your copy today at mydreamrpg.com if you plan on entering.

@Frank Geist, Free publishing simply means, free publishing. Dream Games will work with your team to get your winning entry published and into the hands of the consumer, at no charge to you. Comes as a perk for being the winner.

Alan has just about everything we make I think, and maybe even some that we don't!

@Michael Wojcik - I already own TGE, TSE, MMOKIT, and Titas. :) I was one of the original "Dream Members" from waaayyyy back. :D

@Dave Young - your right. It's scary the amount of stuff I've acquired, 3D-diggers, Exis, DreamRpg, Garage Games, and a few I can't think of at the moment. My big issue is my day job, Wife, and 2 kids. Cuts down on my time to work on stuff. However, with a cash prize dangling out there my wife may give me more time. LOL!

In that case we will consider dramatically upping the ante next time, as a stealth way to give all Indie developers 90 days of permittable dev time with their wives' permission! It will be our gift to the Indie community :)
