Finally Making My First 3D Game

by Okashira · 09/14/2006 (6:30 pm) · 10 comments

I've made quite a few 2D games in my past, so I have decided to move on - to the third dimension. I purchased TGE on August 22nd for hobbying and have since then taken some great tutorials(Thanks Codesampler!, modded the FPS & Racing Starter Kits, and basically just screwed around.

So, here I am - I have actually decided to start making a game with TGE. I have decided on something simple for my first - a basic platformer with some simple ai.

At the moment I am working on basic character design, and found that I actually had to learn 3d animation (gasp!). Let me just say one thing - anyone that tells you that 3d animation is fun should be shot. No, seriously.

Anyways, I hope to show some screenies soon, I just hope this thing turns out!

Wish me luck!

3D Animation "IS" fun, I love every second of it. NOW PUT THE GUN DOWN!, and take 10 steps back!

Anyways welcome to the 3rd dimension, and good luck with your new project.

Once you get syncronised with 3d you will always prefer it for its ease of animation toolscompared to 2d

Thanks guys.
I always disliked animating sprites without some sort of a 2D bone editor, especially since my pixel art skills aren't the best. So one thing I like about 3D animation is not having to redraw the model for every frame from every angle :P.

and 3d can be used in 2d too :)
