Switching Gears (quick video)

by Affectworks · 08/14/2006 (1:05 pm) · 13 comments

We are quite busy at Affectworks as we are working very hard on creating a playable demo for IGC of Switching Gears. Since I promised with my last post that I would post some video of the game here it is.

This is a video of some of the features in Switching Gears, the world is my test world that is put together using art from the real level that Fredrik is working on as I speak (It is looking awesome btw). In other words the world in the video is just my test world so it isn't lit and not nearly as pretty as the real one.

Enjoy!

Edit by Fredrik S:

I also wanted to state that several of the animations are in rough states and not superpolished yet, but we wanted show off some of the features of the game. From start to finish:

Use of bubble gun. My favorite weapon of the game.
Quest / Mission dialogue system. You pick up quests for cash doing this.
Hanging , swinging on ledges.
Some of the different weapons.

Oh.. the in game UI is pretty much done and created with flash. We hate flash. With much passion.

Cool stuff. Looks like a lot fo effort has gone into it and it appears to have paid off.

When he first ran around the corner at the beginning of the vid with his arms out I thought for sure he was gonna hug the big red guy =] Add this feature now. lol.

I like it.. the bubble gun is great. I like the ledge hanging too. The world looks a bit empty though, maybe you could flesh it out a bit? maybe some vehicles on rails or some such?

Moving platforms stylee.

Phil.

The world shown in the video is just my programmers level where he tests things. Not indicative whatsoever (is that one word) to what the final level will look like.

And I was wondering how long it would take for someone to mention Metal Arms. :)

Looking great and really attractive. It feels like "hey give me the control I want to play!" :)

Video looks great. Looks like the kind of game that would be really fun to just pick up and play.

I really like the animation. Seems like a lot of work has been put into this game already. Good luck. I hope it's a success.

I like the gun that spawns bubbles to bounce off and trap the bad guys in.

What was the gun that required routing the power or something near the end of the clip?

Like the smooth camera movement and the weapon switching hud. Keep at it, it's looking good.

@ Gary - When an EMP attack hits your player then a 2d game is created where you must reconnect 'power nodes' to power up again. Each time you are hit with an EMP more nodes get burned out increasing the difficulty of this 'power reconnecting game'. Upon spending hard earned cash at a med bot you can choose to have these burned nodes replaced for a fresh go at taking on more EMP-armed baddies.

thanks for all the kind words guys, they really help motivate!
