Hello folks. This is a short blog just to keep you up-to-date.
New GPGT Appendix
I have finished the draft version of a new appendix (Appendix E) for GPGT Volume 1. This appendix is a 'steps only' version of "Appendix C - Combined Maze Runner Lessons".
This new appendix has the following features:
- Compresses all 'Maze Runner' lesson steps into just those steps neccesary to build the prototype.
- Fixes all errors in the lesson steps. So, follow these steps instead of using Appendix C or the printed book.
- Adds support for OSX users, in the form of special steps.
- All steps have been updated to remove ambiguity about what file you are copying, editing, etc.
While my web-site is 'broken' you may download the new appendix here.
OSX Support Complete
I have also finished my OSX testing and fixing. To that end, I am making the following downloads available:
OSX Starter - This goes with new appendix.
OSX Executable - This can be used to use/play both the 'GPGT Lesson Kit' and 'Maze Runner Advanced'.
To use this with the 'GPGT Lesson Kit',
1. Copy the 'GPGT LessonKit' folder off the CD onto your hard drive.
2. Unzip OSX Executable into this new folder.
3. Double Click 'Torque Demo OSX'
To use this with 'Maze Runner Advanced',
1. Copy the 'MazeRunnerAdvanced' folder off the CD onto your hard drive.
2. Unzip OSX Executable into this new folder.
3. Double Click 'Torque Demo OSX'
e-Book DRM Survey
I'm currently investigating the possibility of using DRM on my future works. However, I would like to hear what you think. Thus, I have assembled a short web survey.
If you are considering buying my book(s) in e-version, please help me out and answer this short survey.

Alternately, or if the survey gets maxed out, feel free to post your thoughts here.
Thanks a ton folks! Now, back to work for me.

DRM is inherently intolerable to me.

If you use DRM, I would prefer the book in LIT format. That way I can read it on my different computers, or on my PDA.

I can't think of any customer that would enjoy having DRM in a product that they have purchased. DRM has no benefit at all for the customer, and will only cause them frustration. DRM isn't even really legal, due to fair use laws in the United States. That doesn't stop companies from using it, to annoy their customers though.

While I'm not a big fan of DRM, I can't think of a decent way to protect Ed's IP if he were to release an ebook. If he were to release an ebook version of GPGT without DRM, it would likely hurt the total sales.

Its hard to say. Most technical people that know what DRM is, wouldn't never buy anything protected by it. I wouldn't have bought Torque if it was protected by any form of DRM. In fact I spent quite a bit of time checking out if there was any kind of activation with Torque. I knew it would be pretty hard to implement if you were supposed to have full source code, but I have been screwed before by DRM.

Still, for me it's all theoretical anyway as I have a hard copy and I simply can't stand reading books on screen or on my iPaq ;)
