Grand Torque Auto

Finally I desided to do a game.

At first I was planing a GTA/Battlefield inspired FPS with minimum of effort
just to get something done, not to acctually "make the greatest game of all times".
Mainly beacuse I a totally unfunded newbee indie game developer :-)

But at the moment my little game idea very well can the next best thing since Doom ;-)
(Oh, well, I don't have no illusion, digital or analog) but I'm quite found of the game play.

Ok the idea:

My two favorite games are GTA-serise and Battlefield-series, and even though
I've said I never make an FPS, because all kids wanne do an FPS, well before they all wanted to do moorpgs).

This is a multiplayer version of GTA with strong infulenses of Battlefield.
It consists of players grouped in to 4 (or so) teams of which one is the Police.

The teams compite over the control of the city by having control of different
city areas. Each areas hold by a team gives that team advantages and the
other teams might be punished by not holding enough areas (no spawns).

There will also be objectives offered in a quest like fashion to the teams
(exlusive to one team or for the teams to compet for).

Police of course have counter objektivs, for instance if there is a
security truck with valubales being sent trhough the city the police
objective would be to protect it, the thiefs to steal it before someone
else does and without getting caught.

Teams have a team-wanted level and each team member have an individual
wanted level. Police can't arrest people until they are wanted, the will not be wanted
before they do something criminal and there is a whitness to the act (crime in secrecy
will be "safe"). The police can shot the criminals or arrest them. For criminals with the
lowest wanted level there is a individual penelty for shoting them.
Police have non-leathal weapons (well all have, but they are mostly useful for the police)
that can take out criminals without killing them, electric stunguns, water canons, tear gas
etc.)

The criminals are group in three teams the Anarkist Bikers (mostly does robberies,
narcotics and murder), The Mob (deals with prostitutes and narcotisc) and the Getto
Gangstars (narcotics, GTA)
(Well it's not set in stone yet ;-)

I have some idea about having the gangs have either beefs or collaborate. There will have to
be some kind of commander roll for one of the players (like in BF2) for this to work I think.
So I might let that idea rest. Also I would like to use TK:ing as a part of the game and
also use brides, corrupt police men and other intersting social aspect. But I leave that
for the 2.0 release :-)

I don't know of any prior multi team network games, so I would be interested in
referenses.

I'm also intrested in volonters, but as this is a learning project from my side,
even though I loooove to play this game, I'm not seeking people more activally
than this. Let me know if you might be intrested in helping out any help would
be appriciated :-)

I'm doing all the programing at this poing, I have some promises of help
with art and mapping. Might even get help with 3D modelling.

I'd suggest checking out the GameBeavers resource. It has AI, vehicles, jets, some city buildings (IIRC), and other things that might be helpful.

Hi Eric,
Thanks for the tip.

I already know about GameBeaver. I'm using Karl Cop et al as a Police player at the moment.

you might consider going to www.ExisExchange.com for the content you need. Vehicles, characters, weapons, you name it.

Hi Peter,
I sure have considered that already :-) Thanks for the point anyway :-)

That Hank dude would be a nice though I think, the other characters are a bit, well they aren't quite right are they ;-)

Love the Humvees. But I also would love to role my own vehicles. I want to have moving, destructable parts a la GTA, of course :-) I'm not sure stock packs will ccome with what I want. I also problably need the vehicles to be quite similare in design.

Exis Exchange's weapons are really nice too.

Cheers,
Johan
