Undead Legion Characters - 3d Content Pack
by Peter Kojesta · 06/02/2006 (4:51 am) · 28 comments
We've launched another set of packs for the community. This time it's a couple of serious undead baddies. There are three distinct chatacters in the line-up. Each can be purchased individually, or as a collection to save money and download annoyances.
The pack includes the undead shaman, the undead warrior, and the evil undead berserker. They're all animated, and include 512x512 diffuse, bump, and specular textures. All the exports are setup, and you can just plug them right into Torque.
Make sure to check them out, and all of our other content available on the Exis Exchange.com (click on characters or collections along the top)

They do look a bit sameish to be sold as seperate characters. The lower halves are all identical, and they share slightly modified textures and geometry in many areas. Don't seem to have any vastly unique animations other than an attack either. That's just nitpicking though, the pack is prolly worth it, cool stuff overall.

3 questions.
1 - LOD?
2 - Are they based on the same skeleton as any of the other GG characters or Cubix Studios? Just wondering because then they would work with the ragdoll pack.
3 - Is a PSD file one of the source files for skins?

It's a bit expensive for such quality... You guys still need to work on the animation quality they are a bit clunky when movin'. It doesnt seem like you've spent a lot of time on this models... The textures are ok.
IMHO, the price $49.95 would be fair for the whole pack, not just for one model.
And, btw, guys, read carefully Exis' license agreement! There are a lot of questions how you can use these models (e.g. only in one title). It seems like one does not buying a pack, but just leasing/renting it... Beware, I may say...

1 - Alright, yea, I just went and added LOD support to the models. I'm uploading them to our server right nwo, so in about 15 minutes or so, they will be active.
2 - Each one has a custom skeleton
3- 512x512 JPG's are included
Alexander "taualex" Gaevoy :
you're about as off base as you can get. "such quality" being sold for so cheap is a disservice to my company if anything. We're trying to get good content into indie hands, something the community is pretty starved for. You try to get models of this quality done by an artist it would cost you $2000 per model (being a fulltime art contractor, I would know). so your comments are pretty ill informed.
As for the license, you can look at all the GG content packs and see that it's the same license agreement. If you have a problem with those, I suggest you take it up with GG.

*) your license is way different from packs on GG site (small differences, but big outcomes)
*) you are not selling it on GG site, so no need to address it to GG
In 1st place, the pricing is your business, I dont care about it, I just gave my opinion on your pricing model, quality and license. I already fell into similar pitfalls with not reading a license carefuly, so I'm just warning others. If you make the license more liberal and cut prices - you'll have more customers, thus money, trust me.
And, you dont need to tell me about prices for the models, I can and I will have models with better quality for less, there are plenty good artists in easten europe willing to work with me.... ;)
Sorry if I sounded negative, nothing personal, just business.

General advice to all sellers of content/content packs: Don't be offended (or at least don't respond publically) to comments that you may see as negative--instead, evaluate the content itself of the post, and honestly determine if they are applicable to your product. If they do make sense, follow the advice given (you did regarding the LOD post for example). If they don't appear to be applicable, then simply thank the user for their input--as soon as you sound defensive, people will jump on the bandwagon, and you will get a net negative publicity...

We run into this quite a bit on the forums here...sometimes posts given in good will don't necessarily come across that way.General advice to all sellers of content/content packs: Don't be offended (or at least don't respond publically) to comments that you may see as negative--instead, evaluate the content itself of the post, and honestly determine if they are applicable to your product. My god, whats next... having to pay for game engines?
Just kidding.
Peter, nice models (shame they don't fit in to a WW2 game)
I like the plane models you got on the site... might have to buy the german one in the next few days.

Unfortunatly, a lot of sellers take it personaly, and they shouldn't. I'm following such advice when I'm selling my services.

I would have to agree with Alexander's feelings about the price. it is a bit steep compared to similar content packs available here. I would be more inclined to find the price acceptable if more animations were included.

I would like to see in this pack for such price:
+ Swim animation
+ Sitting animation
+ Laying on ground animation
+ 3 types of Death animation
+ Alternative Attack animation (not just spell attack)
+ Collision boxes for all the animations
+ Textures 256x256 (anyone can resize 512x512, but the quality will be lost, 256x256 will look washed enough to make them even more blured by resizing) for RTS and for FPS (material LOD, etc.)
+ Support for v5.0+ 3DS Max (source files are for 7.0, as I see)
+ source for skins (e.g. to change team color)
+ All the models should not look very similar
Am I asking too much? ;)

-* rant on
And I think I can express my opinion freely as well, no need to shut me off, I'm not trying to offend anybody here. I think we are all adults to understand what i mean.
-* rant off
I personally always appreciate criticism for my products, and I do believe I've expressed constructive ones so far, maybe a bit rough, but that's the way I am, sorry for that :).

Joseph, I believe that content packs are sold for indies to be plug-n-play for their applications, it should be like Lego (mount another weapon, change skin, etc.), otherwise, it will be another $2000 in total to make a pack ready, in that case having a part-time artist is a better solution, because of the copyright ownership...-* rant on
