Looks like I could get underway pretty soon.

Ok, so I have decided to start a project, akind of FPS/Medevil style action game with bows, crossbows, swords and such. I plan on using the Torque game engine for this.
The brief outline of my idea is as follows:

____________________________________________________________________
The game

A team based game, two teams of diffrent original races battle it out in three different scenario's. There will also be 5 diffrent NPC's which roam randomly and attack on sight. Alot of this game i want to be based on randomness in terms of creatures, spawn points, weapons and scenery etc.

Outlined:

Working title: Savage Lands

3D action game, 3rd and 1st person.

Team based
3 diffrent scenario's
Randomly generated terrain
up to 10 NPC spawns in one map

The idea
The game will rely heavily on random generators. There will be no set maps, the scenario, the landscape, spawns and item placing will be be random. This goes for the type and number of items or NPC's to. For instance one maps could have only one Sliz spawn where as the next map could have 10 spawns of diffrent NPC's. The NPC's will also have random weapons.

Players start out with knife and must kill other players or an NPC to gain whatever weapon they were holding at the time. NPC's hold random weapons which they spawn with. They roam in random direction and will attack players on sight. Diffrent NPC's will have diffrent characteristics. Just as the two player races will.

As I said before players will be thrown into random games which will be described to them during the loading scene and also in a documentation that comes with the game. Maps will have randomly generated names which I hope to achieve with a random generator. Somthing like "The {landscape type} {preposition} {random name}". I might do a name generator based off of Rinkworks name generator, style wise. However I will have to wait and see, actually find out how to create a generator and then learn.

My aim in this is to keep the players happy and on their toes. They will have to find their enemies and then complete the scenario whilst searching for NPC's and items etc. This should create a fair amount of veriety and "adventure".

When useing long range weapons the player will switch to 1st person view but when useing melee weapons they will use 3rd person. Each player can carry up to 4 weapons at a time.

Player races

Rak-per
Ur'tesk

(I will try and get some drawing of them up soon, these will be prelimenary however, so they may change over time)

NPC's

Rulkal
Yesusk
Sliz
Snus
Quan

(I am in the process of designing them)

Scenario's

Annialation
Each player gets 5 lives. The teams have to wipe out the opposing force, the last team standing wins.

Capture and hold
At a random point in the map there will be an area which one team must hold. This area must be entered to be captured and then held by staying inside it. The game last for 30 minutes and for every minute a team holds the area without any of the other team entering it or inside it, they recieve 10 points. The team with the highest score wins.

I am having the idea of maybe having this area as a castle or a special building/landmark which will be colour coded on the map so the players know where to go and hold.

Assualt
Each team has a series of buildings (their base), which are given set damage counts. To be victoriouse the teams must destroy the enemy base.

I will probably make a set model for this 'base' and then have to make it so the spawn points are inside or within a certain range of the base. Yet more scripting needed.

Rigt, so I think you get the general idea. Hopefully I can get a friend or two to help me with this not definate. I realise this is going to take a long time to do, but hopefully I can get at least bits of it done myself. Will deffinatly need to ask for help on the forums and maybe I will set up a website to follow the development, maybe attracting more people. This will be done in my spare time so I wont have a set time limit or date that somthing will be done by, but hopefully I can get things started soonish.

I will have to make a list of milestones and a more detailed action plan. For now I am sketching animation idea's down on paper as well as designing creatures and scenery to fill up my levels.

I will then move on to actually makeing them in 3D.
For the time being 3D wise I am creating a general human form which I will use as a base for any future models to adapt and create other "humanoid" characters. I will update this when I get things done with this project. I might even want to go online with it at the final stages, but thats too far ahead to give any proper consideration for now.
Best to start with my feet on the ground eh? Hopefully I have a well grounded and pluasible game design here that can actually be created.

Wow, sounds really fun. Nice plans. You shouldn't make the maps too big, people could get lost and the game would get slow and not any more fun. Or do whatever you want. Either way I can't wait to see some screenshots.

Reminds me of Savage I and II though...

Yeah, I'm pretty new to this whole thing though, But I'm makeing my first models of characters and drawings etc. I'll edit as I go along design wise. I wont be doing much for the next couple of weeks though. GCSE exams. And then I'll get the TGE. But I'll be drawing and such. Right now I'm coming up with concept sketches for the NPC's. I'll try , (as I said before..,.. hmm....) to get those sketches up.

I might start on the weapon models as well. Well I'll try and update after the exams.
