Horses

We have been busy over at mydreamrpg.com. The question was how to put a horse into the game so that players could ride around the world. Well we finally managed. The horses wander around until a player targets one. The player mounts and takes control. Next we paln to make a pet out of the horse and maybe even a posession spell. Personally I've never wanted to be a horse but I suppose some might like that.
For those who would like to take a look we should have a demo out shortly at mydream.com as well as a horse pack.

I'm going to back Ashley up here. I bought the horse and thing it's pretty cool. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to kill it so my player's can eat it after they catch it.

It would be great to see a ridable mount...is this a new class of vehicle or aiplayer?? If I may ask. This is something I would purchase. Keep the community updated! Thanks.

It's absolutely fascinating how it works, but basically Ash figured out a way to mount a player to another player.
It takes some tweaking in the model to do, and there are some magical incantations you need to make to your player.cc file, but Ash has this all setup nicely and we've all spent hundreds of hours riding our horses around the Emerald Plains to get the feeling just right. There is a very basic horse (more of a pony really), that comes stock in the MMORPG Enhancement Kit, but Ash's horse pack has more horses, and more skins for the horses. They also feel a little better to ride than the ones in the MMORPG Ehancement Kit.
And yes you can attack from the horse, we are even working on a way to make the horse jump while mounted (currently spacebar/jump unmounts you)

No it's not really a new class. It's absolutely fascinating how it works, but basically Ash figured out a way to mount a player to another player.

Might want to ask Robert Brewer about the horse jumping issue. He released a horse pack (well kinda quietly) couple years back. I'm pretty sure the horse jumped in it. It's been a while since I had used it. He could probably help you out Ash.

I'd be cool to shoot the rider off the horse and have the horse run off. Or be able to spook the horse and have the horse buck.

The horse can be ridden and completely controled by the player. It takes a little work if you want to shoot from horseback. We are just getting into working that out. The horse is treated as an aiplayer so no it is not really a new class. Keep in mind you must include some code to turn off the collision between the horse and player. I do it inside player.cc and also in the script. And right at this moment when you die the horse kinda just drags your corpse around.

I'm gonna have to load the horsey back up and check it out again.

So the dead player stays seated then while the horse goes back to wandering around?I'm gonna have to load the horsey back up and check it out again.

Actually you might end up laughing. Because of the death animaions and how the nodes attach the player body falls under the horse. I think issueing an on death command to dismount will fix this right up.
