GID J ENTRY

Ok, so here goes for my Game In a Day entry for GID J (www.gameinaday.com)

So my entry was a quick and dirty prototype for an idea I had.

I started by doing the most fun bit first, which was making the title screen.

Then I took some time doing the port of Rob and Eric (and others) Horsie pack to 1.4, which didnt take long :) Which left me with my starting point.

After verifying that it worked, I went on to incorporate some steering behaviors from the AI pack and voila! there is my game.

The game is called EXTREME HORSES! ok, so its not quite in line with the original theme, lets call it artistic license.

The basic premise started out with AI based battle horses, only I had some trouble mounting a working turret on the horses, so I figured I'd try out some steering and see if a horse herding concept would work instead (not quite as extreme, but then its family friendly now).

Easy peasy really. Horse pack, AI pack, a bit of tweaking and there you go.

Only, its not really fun. I think I'm going to have to optimise the horses a bit so I can have several hundred and see if that doesnt help give a feeling of scale. Also I need some large open spaces and "rope" mode which acts like a grapple hook on fleeing horses.

I guess with a bit more work it could be used as a ranching sim, which could be quite unique!

Nifty. Small point:

It's GID j, not GID J. The number is base62, lowercase first ... it's the 19th (decimal) GID, thus GID j. GID J would be GID 45 decimal.

Why do those horses have the forest camoflauge pattern? Shouldn't it be the grasslands, plains, or savannah pattern?

You gotta watch your case sensitivity Phil. The nerds will crucify you for it otherwise. =)

It's not being picky. You wouldn't type 0x2D when you meant 0x13, would you ? :)

Battle horses sounds a lot funnier ;)

If its not fun to play then a few more horses along with a few nice death traps would have given a good reason to herd the horses. Although which direction you herded them in would depend on how interesting the traps were when activated ;)

As for the "not fun" factor, that's what all my GIDs to date have been like, much more fun to make than to play :)

Was there a 1.3 release of the horse? Or any release?

There hasn't been a public release of the horse pack. Only special people have it.
