TLK Shaman Demo - Public Soft Launch
by John Kabus (BobTheCBuilder) · 03/10/2006 (5:19 pm) · 14 comments
After a week of testing and feedback from the Torque Lighting Kit community, the TLK Shaman Demo is ready for its public debut. Initially we're soft launching the demo at Bleeding Edge Indie, and if all goes well it will be ready for a full public release shortly.The demo, which was produced by Synapse Gaming and features TLK technology, also features artwork by Christophe Canon and music by Ajari Wilson. It shows just some of the awesome possibilities available to you when using TLK, and how to achieve them.
Download the TLK Shaman Demo from Bleeding Edge Indie
Don't forget that owning a TLK license gives you access to exclusive TLK resources, including the just released (and already extremely popular) Bloom/Dynamic Range Lighting (HDR without shaders) resource!

If you're a TLK licensee check out the New Resource thread. If you're not what are you waiting for - buy it now! :)
We'd just like to say thanks to the TLK community for their feedback - its helped us to really tighten up the demo.

Nice work by everyone involved - I think these demo's really are a great way to show off SG technology and also highlight some great artists.

Good work, and remember, "keep your stick on the ice."

Amazing. Is this going to turn into a game at some point? That would be pretty cool. Good work, and remember, "keep your stick on the ice."

constructive crits:
-There were a couple places where It wasn't clear that the effect described was being demonstrated, static objects casting shadows, when the text said that, I didn't see any, maybe they were just subtle or light shadows that didn't show up well on my monitor?
-Projected lights, I didn't see a projected light. Was it the two runes? When I think of projected lights I usually think of things like stained glass, flashlights, shadow cutouts etc, maybe a bigger effect to show it off would be nice.
-It'd be nice to add the ability to skip past the initial text screens for faster readers (and those running the demo a second time :) ).
cool demo!

TorqueLightingKit-Shaman\demo\client\prefs.cs
Last few lines of code.
$pref::Video::resolution = "1920 1200 32";
$pref::Video::safeModeOn = "1";
$pref::Video::screenShotFormat = "PNG";
$pref::Video::windowedRes = "1920 1200";
$pref::visibleDistanceMod = "1";
as you can see i put my resolution up to 1920x1200, make sure you change both lines containing those numbers

Love the demo, the auto detect graphic settings seem a little weak and would suggest to anyone getting a 800x600 resolution to change the below file.TorqueLightingKit-Shaman\demo\client\prefs.cs

I really like this demo alot. The visual art is very professional, and the whole thing is put together and presented very well. Top notch stuff. I'm really happy to have had the chance to contribute to this and I look forward to working with John and Christophe again soon.Thanks Blake and Aaron.

Thanks for all the awesome comments! I'll definitely be at GDC, so if you're going keep an eye out for me.
Christophe and Ajari, awesome work team - we did a great job! I'm really looking forward to working together again. :)
Hi Christopher, the auto-detection sets the optimal geometry settings for the scene (not video resolution). I find with Torque the screen resolution doesn't seem to impact performance as much as geometry detail, so the initial detection auto-tunes the demo for your machine.
