Introducing Emma Michaela

My wife gave birth to little Emma Michaela on 4th May. She weighed in at a reasonable 7lb 2oz and stretched 20.4 inches. She kindly gives me time to send emails and post this blog. Otherwise my time i...

Dusting off old code is always fun

Dusting off old code is fun - it's interesting seeing what I used to write and because my memory is so poor, I really enjoy re-remembering all the great little ideas I had. So I dusted off some old...

Have a safe, and merry christmas!

A while ago I posted that my motivation for game development was low. Recently my interest has dropped even lower - I've been trying to improve my Java skills/knowledge to help in my career but that's...

Plan for Mike Stoddart

It's 8:25, and I can finally sit down with Torque and experiment with an idea I have. This one doesn't need modelers or anything as demanding as that, but it will require some non-FPS features. So ...

Plan for Mike Stoddart

I finally found the time to open source my WebSite Framework scripts (http://sourceforge.net/projects/wsframework). Wha? It's basically a bunch of PHP scripts for running a site, which includes news, a CMS like Wiki and simple forums. The code isn't the best I've written but it was a fun experiment and they're certainly usable.

Plan for Mike Stoddart

It's amazing how much difference one more person can make when testing an application. I've had someone reporting bugs to me on my 3d Engine List website while he adds contents and uses the forums. If...

Plan for Mike Stoddart

I've been ticking things over on my PHP/mySQL/Apache scripts, in whatever free time I've had. I started a new website, which uses these scripts, and I'm mulling over getting a couple of people to help...

Plan for Mike Stoddart

Good, solid, spare time is very rare for me these days. I'm currently working overtime to meet deadlines and build up available holidays so I can take time off at Christmas to see my family in England.

Plan for Mike Stoddart

The job offer was signed, sold (at least my soul was!) and delivered back to http://www.navcanada.ca, my future employer. I start the new job on Sept 15th, which is a few weeks away but not really that many!

Plan for Mike Stoddart

Lady luck decided she likes me after all and dropped a job offer on my doorstep on Friday lunchtime.

Plan for Mike Stoddart

Torque Vehicle Resource I submitted a Vehicle Resource but it hasn't been accepted yet. I have my fingers crossed that I included all of the code. This is my first resource so I'm not sure if I've extracted everything from my project required to use it.

Plan for Mike Stoddart

It's been a while since my last plan. Not much has happened since then. Things have been fairly quiet for me. We had a great Christmas and New Year, and were sorely disappointed when it ended and we had to come home. Ah well, such is life.

Plan for Mike Stoddart

We had our first online test of the War In Europe prototype. We lost a member but we also gained one. I took four screenshots, which should hopefully be available now.

Plan for Mike Stoddart

We're slowly ticking over on the design phase on War In Europe. We have some good ideas, but the hardest part is trying to finalise them in such a way that the game will be realistic and enjoyable but...

Plan for Mike Stoddart

Things have been pretty quiet recently. With John joining the team and being away on holiday, I had a break from developing the prototype, though I did implement a new feature that I'm keeping under w...

Plan for Mike Stoddart

Just a quick update. I've managed to get into contact with the two people who applied for the position of 3D Artist with Front Room Games (man, I must change that company name). I also received an off...

Plan for Mike Stoddart

Another week, another bug. Just kidding. I grabbed a new CVS HEAD copy of the source, and added the code to implement sprinting from the resources. It worked beautifully once I tweaked the values in p...
