Plan for Chris Labombard

by Chris Labombard · 10/22/2005 (11:03 am) · 30 comments

I just finished building a prototype, but I dont know if the game is fun or not...

Follow the music with your mouse.
Collect points to add another beat
If you dont collect enough points you lose
If you do then the music gets funkier

Collect more points for:
1. Being close to the center
2. Being on the beat when the sound plays

Please download it and check it out. Let me know what you think.

Only the first 2 tracks are playable.

Its all programmer art, obviously. The green bubbles are supposed to be wave ripples.

About the author

I have been a professional game programmer for over 5 years now. I've worked on virtually every platform, dozens of games and released a few of my own games, including 2 iPhone titles and a title waiting release on Big Fish Games.

Personally, I'd like to see the hints be something else, or at least a faint ripple, or something easy to distinguish as a hint. I wouldn't want to be in the middle of getting my points only to see a hint pop up and think it's a ripple I need to hit, go to it and miss something else (then again, you can always add bonus points for getting the hint ripple or something).

Also, i'm not exactly sure of what kind of complexity you are looking for for beats, but a friend of mine does great techno-ish type stuff. He made me a great theme song for free, just asked to be in credits. I can't garuntee the same, but he does great work. This site: http://www.myspace.com/existenceunknown has some examples of his work.

I've been debating on wether or not to hook up with a sound engineer. What program does he use?

If I do that, it wont be for a while yet.

I'm not sure what program he uses, but I he uses several if i recall. I updated my comment above so it has some examples of his work if you decide to use a sound engineer down the line. Just let me know if you want to get in contact with him (as that probably won't get you as fast a response as me just calling him up).

No problem :)
Just hope it didn't come off as "pitch"ish as i thought it did. Just trying to help!

this is very fun!!! I like the idea!!! I won't give suggestions, because what I thought of has already been given, and because it's only a prototype.

p.s. I noticed the GUI editor is still there, you should remove that...

If anyone else reads this...

I now have particle effects that shoot from the beats and are colour coded so you know if your getting lots of points form the beat.

Also, I have set up a hinting system. The time the hints are visible for is dependent on the chosen difficulty (which has now been added to the main menu)

How do you download it? Your old .plan link gets a 404.
