Torque 2D Political Satire Contest - Contest #2

by Geoff Beckstrom · 02/08/2012 (1:10 pm) · 47 comments

We had a great response to our hour long zen garden contest. This week we are listening to community feedback and giving everyone a bit more time.

For this contest we are switching gears to Torque 2D and current events.

Provide a video or a screen capture of your best political satire using Torque 2D to create the scene or game. Post your entry as a comment to this blog no later than 11:59 AM PST Friday February 10th.

We will announce the winner by the end of community power hour at 1:00 PM PST that Friday and award $129 in store credit for first party products.

Just a quick note – we are going for humor, satire, and a display of Torque 2D capabilities. We are NOT looking for anything offensive or illegal (IE – threating to any politician or candidate). Any entries that are deemed to be offensive or potentially illegal will be removed and disqualified from the contest.

Finally for our international community members – feel free to take some fun shots at US politics OR give us some insight to your local political fun.

Game On!

Bipartisan Man!

The Object of Bipartisan Man is to remain Bipartisan and "For the people" as long as possible

You'll fly around as Super Obama through rings that are labeled with the each parties agenda. If the ring is on the top half of the screen it is for the democratic agenda, on the bottom it's for the republican agenda, and if you dodge the ring you are "for the people". Each ring you go through nets you 2 presidential power points and fills the presidential power meter. Dodging rings nets you no president points but puts a point in the agenda points tally for the people. the icons on the bottom represent how you are doing with each agenda. The colors of the icons change according to who you support most. the five icons effect the gameplay. if more icons are blue than red then the republicans will attack you and vice versa. If more icons are white then both sides will attack you. Playing for the people get you ten points towards your presidential favor score while playing the political game only gets you 1 point towards your political score. There are awards and trophies for how you play and achievements based of certain events. I'm gonna finish this game up for my website and release the source and files. This was very fun Hope we do more in the future.

Just because it's too late to enter the contest doesn't mean you can't create an entry and post it for everyone to see!

I'm quite saddened I didn't see this much earlier yesterday. Would have been a fun project to take a quick stab at. Nice to see that there were quite a few entries though!

Congratulations, Glenn.

It being February 11th, maybe we should have the next few days be for a valentine's day themed contest?

I already have an idea of what I could do, but probably wouldn't have the time to make anything. I'd love to see what others come up with.

Thanks Dave and Pat. Bipartisan Man is almost ready for release on the site with source included. Couple more things to work out but I'm balancing the gameplay now, adding a title screen, and instructions screen. I really need to clean the code up cause it a real dirty build but maybe I leave it to the community to try to improve and modify it.
