Survival Strike - Even a Zombie needs to eat!

Survival Strike - Zombie Town - The entrance

Zombie Town will appeal to those of you who are Resident Evil, Left 4 Dead or Silent Hill fans. Even further down the line, after we go live and the mission objectives start to kick into the gameplay for each of the zones, you will see what I mean about solving puzzles, saving people from being breakfast, lunch, dinner, afternoon tea, supper, brunch, midnight snack - you get the drift (did I miss any out?). The fun really begins at night when the sun starts to go down and everybody starts to take cover. There's nothing like hearing footsteps behind you in pitch darkness with nothing but a torch, a weapon and the smell of fear to keep you company.

Screenshots of the Entrance to Zombie Town (over 50% done). A final screenshot will be added to this page once 100% complete.

Cool!
But your ambient is a bit dark, makes it kinda hard to see stuff.

afternoon tea - lol

For the moment, that's the idea - in game looks better : afternoon tea - reminded me of the time when I treated my other half who was expecting our first child to a/t at the waldorf hotel in London - thought I'd throw that in lol, although I was a bit disappointed that the PSOne did not work in the room!

Actually I think the ambient is a bit dark even in the game, with the sun behind the buildings. I only have HDR on, and the textures on the buidings are fairly dark already. Further tweaking to be made later after feedback from the BETA testers, but thanks for the heads up.

HDR, I think you really need to tweak your textures when you're using it, by using a big highpass. I've noticed that a lot of 3A game textures are hugely desaturated/decontrasted .... if "decontrasted" is a real word :S

Wanting plenty of sublety in colour, in my own project - I've avoided HDR

I'll be tweaking lots of PostFX settings and may do a little community thing where the masses can decide on the best one to start with, or maybe have it so that the end user can switch to what they prefer - everyone then has their own personal choice of environment settings. Undecided on that just yet - it may take the unique personality of the game away.

Edit: if anything it will spark - why is my screenshot different to your screenshot and start a debate :)

this looks interesing. Can't wait to see the zombies.
I have a question, how can i set pictures or you tube movies in forum, so everyone can see it without clicking a link. Sry for the noobish off topic question, but i need to know this :)

Can't wait to show you the zombies.. :) I may have to link them to my website that asks for age verification first, depends on the gore!

For images: (I generally resize them to 700 width for here)

or

For youTube:

[youtube=video_id width=400 height =360] - change height and width accordingly.

Thanks for all the comments. Don't suppose anyone has any blood splatter resources on T3D 1.1 b2 for hit impact on the GUI ?

Like this one? Its probably not ported to 1.1b but I guess it'll only require some small changes.

Anyways nice blog,
zombies are my favorite :D

Hope open beta will come soon :)

Nice, but the environment seems a little sparse... Given the scene as it is already though I can imagine it would have a nice tense atmosphere once the zombies start shambling about for their happy meals.

@Michael - this zone is only 50% done (above).. and it's really only meant to be an entrance to Zombie Town which then takes you to another mission on the server once you've reached the centre, so you'll get to see a few zombies trying to escape/attack you before you are knee deep in Zombies mayhem. The main map is vast and leads off to various zones (more on this later) once I have completed the map.

Now 52% done on this zone (below) :)

Ok..

competition time..

This competition will be ongoing until we're out of BETA... so people who have not been following this blog will see it again in later blogs. The prize will be a signed, limited edition boxed copy of the game, with a t-shirt and a few other freebies (not sure what they will be as I've not thought about the merchandise side of things just yet!).

Question: What's inside the box? (see screenshot below) - it may not be obvious, but would be good to see some imagination and don't forget there are zombies inside that gate! The winner will be the one with the most imaginative answer :)

Almost forgot! You can either post your answers here for all to see or you can send me your answer via my websites contact page

Ah ha, gotcha! I've experimented with a world map to mission area map myself. I think it's a great way to stitch together a massive world in mission/objective type chunks and yet still allow "fast travel" in between points of interest.

What's in the box?
Hmm, the award to be presented to the winner of the Zombie Kill of the Week of course... oh wait, maybe it's the secret weapon to be used for ZKotW :D

lol.. what type of secret weapon would that be. A custard pie throwing device? Not forgetting that my game has its serious side, but also far from reality!

I went for the Main Map linking to other missions so that I could constantly add to it, with also zones leading off to other zones. Eventually I'd like to stream it somehow so there is no transition between loading, but I'll save that for when I have the team and money to do it. There's only me working on it afterall (bar the odd piece of paid help from time to time, and a great community of resource providers - thanks guys - you know who you are!).

@Andy - lol, I hope you're not digging yourself a hole in that trench .. but I'm guessing you'll need that to be attached to a drill. My way of thinking is that the winner will also see the weapon/item created and be stored in that box.. so I think even there may be blood in the game the rating will be 17? but adding this item in may push it into 18 territory.

My idea, even though I can't enter would be a weapon that fired out spring loaded snakes, you know those ones that magicians have in a tube.

Edit: enhancing on this.. once they land on the floor, they crawl snake like to their target and explode.

A speargun. Has an attached chunk of human. Spear embeds into zombie dangling fresh food just out of reach and zombie relentlessly chases after it.
