Torque Talk Live - The TorquePowered Podcast

by Scott Burns · 06/02/2010 (2:05 pm) · 23 comments

I've been talking about doing it for months now and it's finally here. Friday, 6/4/2010, will be the first episode of Torque Talk Live. There's a discussion thread here for the podcast. Just like with IRC Hour threads we'll be posting the download links and show notes for each episode there.

What is it:
A talk radio style podcast broadcast live via Ustream with recorded versions made available a day or two after the live broadcast. We'll discuss game industry news and Torque news. There will also be regular interviews with Torque developers, other employees, community members, etc. All this while taking calls from the community live via Skype.

Where is it:
You can listen live via Ustream.

When is it:
Live shows will be broadcast the first Friday of every month at 6:00 pm (EST)/3:00 pm(PST).

How to call in:
To call in to the show you'll need a headset and Skype.
When the lines are opened for callers, call davemontgomeryblake in Skype. David will be the one screening calls before they go on the air to find out how who's calling and what they want to talk about. Please don't call before the lines are declared open.

When calling in remember that the same rules for terrestrial radio (in the US) apply to our show. In other words, keep it family friendly.

OP has been updated with the call-in information.

Also, we've unfortunately found ourselves without intro/outro music for the first episode. So anyone that would like to have their music featured in the podcast, just send me an email with an mp3 attached.

Tomorrow will be nothing short of chaotic fun. I think I have a music hookup, btw.

Kitten ate my good (*NEW*) headset cable, so I'll be using a lower-quality mic. But I'll be there getting callers in the Torque zone!

I hope to be able to get the recording... I couldn't make it because of the time.

I was able to record about 53 minutes of it. The first 25 minutes or so are missing from the recording as I forgot to press record at the start. I've got a couple edits to make to it and once that's done I'll put it up for download.

@Scott..and @ Eric. I missed the call.. DARN IT.. I had some questions that I think others may be interested in knowing the answers to..

1. Will Sick head games produce any kits for itorque or torque x 2d and or 3d? We could really benefit from those kits..
Also do you know when the eta for the "arcade kit" that they are working on?

2. Is there any way to provide a non source code demo version of itorque? $700 is alot of money when i cant use a demo and unity iphone is only $300.

3. John K. spoke of some really really really cool enhancements for torque x 3d (making it a REAL Editor thats component based ect.) I know youre concerning on stability.. But when can we expect some new features.. We need it.. :)

4. Are there any plans for garagegames to build some kits for torque x 3d? its the lonely step child..

#2 is sorta impossible for iTorque. iPhone development is heavily source-based for a number of reasons. You'll probably find that Unity iPhone REALLY is more like $1200-$1500 :(

(No code-stripping or optimisation unless you pay the full price! Unity gives you a binary blob to link, which just doesn't give you much flexibility.)

The RSS feed should be working now. Looks like it took some time for the feed to update with the published episode.

@Darrell
Those TorqueX questions are better posed to Derek Bronson, and Ronny pretty much nailed it as far as an iTorque demo is concerned.

@Darrell - It is not impossible to create a demo version of iTorque, and it is something I have thought about for a later release. However, there are higher priority tasks that need to be addressed with our current engines.

demo versions are a good thing, but i would put some $ in making professional video tutorials and presentations.
Maybe you need my help ;)
