GarageGames.com Site Update, May 20th

by Jacob Fike · 05/20/2009 (2:33 pm) · 57 comments

New Features

  • Front Page: The front page has been redesigned to present more information, but in a better way than before. You will now see a preview of the most recent employee blogs, links to some awesome games made with Torque, and a twitter news feed designed to inform you of new products, updates to existing products and other interesting news.

  • What's New Page: The community what's new page has also be redesigned for the same reasons as the front page, to show you more information and in a better way. Now you will have a complete snapshot of the most recent information on GG.com at a glance. The what's new page now shows recent employee blogs, spotlighted blogs (presented similarly to the old dev snapshots), recent forum threads, resources, and product news from twitter.

  • Blogs Page: We've added a sidebar to the blogs page that gives you several different options for viewing blog content. The default is still all blogs sorted by date, but we've now added ways to view all employee blogs, all spotlighted blogs, and the most recently active blogs. Based on feedback and suggestions, new options will be added to this sidebar.

  • Best of Torque: The best of Torque page is back and better than ever! Enjoy eye-popping screenshots, watch videos, and read developer interviews for all the best games made with Torque.

Other Changes

  • Searching individual locations in advanced search should be working again.
  • Some new RSS feeds have been added to the RSS Feeds page to correspond with the new blog viewing options.
  • You may have noticed the new banner at the top of the community page and the best of Torque pages. Hopefully you will find this new banner less annoying and more useful. The plan is to change the developer store and the my account pages to have a similar banner, complete with relevant actions for the 'What can I do here?' button.
As always, please report any bugs you notice, or give any feedback you might have in this thread.

@ Edinson- Thanks it really feels that way. The site looks great, Torque 3D looks fantastic and the community is the most active it has been in some time.

@ Jacob- This is a little late, but I wanted to thank you again for getting avatar pictures up again. It is sooo nice to see everybody!

Cheers!

Im getting the same problem as Szzg007. Also, can we get chat client information back on user profiles? I used to occasionally message people who i may have an interest in working with.

Quick feature request.

If i post to a thread... it should automatically mark that thread as read and not show up in my unread list. You will probably have to make sure that the thread wasn't updated while i was entering my post... but it seems like something that could be done.

I found this issue a week. But no one has to change. For such an important product since the page has such a problem. I feel very strange. I am using IE7. Is it only when I have such a problem here?
You see is not the same as I see it?

Must be a IE problem. But give 'em time, I'm sure they'll fix it.

+1 to the "mark as read when posting" feature request.

@Szzg007: Sorry about the delay. The web team went on holiday this last week, but we fixed the issue this morning. Let us know if it's still messed up for you!

Morning to get up, I open the computer. Received a letter from GG. I went to confirmed the WEB. It seems it is restored. This looked very comfortable. Wonderful. Do not forget the details of the work.

Hitting refresh and it fixes the view.

Thanks

A suggestion. How about a "Quote" button on each post. That is a fairly standard feature on most sites. Also It cuts on on miscommunication as people see what it is exactly that you are responding to.

Basicly you there is a post you which to respond to you click the "quote" button in the post and it opens the reply box with the BB code and the quoted post already in the reply box.

Advanced Search page not found when navigating in IE8.

Steps to Reproduce:
1) Navigate to Community > Forums
2) Type a string into the 'Search forums' search box and press enter
3) Select any forum post on the 'Advanced Search' page
4) Navigate backwards in IE8 using the browsers back button or Backspace
5) Notice the 'Webpage has expired' IE8 page appears

Expected Results:
Navigating back should take you back to the Advanced Search page.

100% Repro

I will like to see BBCode for easy input using TinyMCE:
tinymce.moxiecode.com/examples/example_09.php#

Is safe, use in many forums and commnunities, easy to setup, and the best thing: easy for the end users to write comments, blogs, etc...
