4/23/09 IRC Hour
Greetings Community! Every 3rd Thursday of a month we have an IRC Hour for the community.
Where Was It?:
Server: irc.maxgaming.net
Channel: #GarageGames
When Was It?:
3:00pm PST
(6:00pm EST)
When Was It, Again?:
3:00pm PST
(6:00pm EST)
I feel the need to post this twice for some people who keep forgetting.
What Was It?: IRC Hour is a chance for the community to have real-time talks with GarageGames employees and our site admin, David Montgomery-Blake. We will be using the GarageGames IRC channel hosted by MaxGaming OnLine.
What It Was Not: Debugging other people's code, marathon one-on-one help sessions, soap-box rants, etc.
The Agenda:
Torque 3D Updates (Beta, Pre-Order Forums, Documentation)
State of the Community
Success Stories
Community Suggestions: Torque 3D vs TGEA performance, Why Upgrade to Torque 3D?

I'll be there when I get off work. I might be a bit sketchy near the end since I'll be making dinner and checking it with Rooms on my iPhone. Scary.

I still think you guys need to do some sort of audio/podcast version of this. That way I can listen while I'm still at work. You need to cater to MY NEEDS!!! Hehe...

IRC is great for allowing multi-taskers to join and not break their work flow.

@Andrew - It's a consideration. The problem is that most of the GG staff are working around this time and have their attention split. To do a proper video or audio cast, we'd all have to get together in a room with a microphone.IRC is great for allowing multi-taskers to join and not break their work flow.

My humble recomendations:
04/23/2009 (9:51 pm)
After reading the log, I found a rather cool part, "State of the Community", good thougth Michael. My humble recomendations:
- David made a hell of a job with his summary blogs on montly activity, that was an awesome gem! I read -or look at least- every blog that gets published, but every day a big number of cool things and discussions passes under-radar for me, specially for now, while there is no "latest forum activity" list.
- I really didnt understood if it got an answer, but the Assembla-esque project management idea was also awesome. Its probably too big for now, and if need to choose, I want you guys improving the engine, but thats an interesting idea, to say the least.
- +1 to a bounty server, although it would probably need a deadly Sheriff moderating it.

Thanks Kenneth, I hadn't realised that.

Hopefully I can get back with those since I'm still monitoring the blogs/forums/etc and things that are going on in other communities as well as ours. I've just been extremely busy in the support queue lately first with the website rollout and then the Torque 3D announcement. Now that things are calming down a bit since pricing has been announced and pre-orders are up (along with Brett's excellent blogs and Matt Fairfax answering questions with his usual verve), I can get back to it. I have a backlist of stuff as well as a couple of other things I've been working on to announce as well.
EDIT: Typo's; damn my fingers!

I didn't get it. I think the site update might have reverted that setting in my profile since I just discovered the box somehow became unchecked.

Oh... 4:00 pm MST... okay...
Being this close to the beta release I will have to try and make it this time... Still hoping to hear more about Gerhard's AI stuff.
