Was checking blogs and forums on the GG and was surprised by a new look... where is all of the features, that i am using over a years... where is nice community page?? where is my dev snapshot?
all of this goes to hell? no tutorials, no email about changing that stuff - only on blog post... so GG about what r us thinking :(((

as i see, more and more ppl disapointd by GG moves and slowly, but community comes down, many of the my friends was here, goes to another, more friendly communities... i want back good old loooking GG, or please make an option in the settings, where i can disable new theme of the site...

fully disapointed

@Michael Perry

thanks for pointing that, but anyway, things happens and as i sad, nothing goes without trace..
1. it is good to hear that dev is going, but can we use old GG instead of this buggy one? when all bug r fixed - new site r welcome
2. nobody here "post vitriolic blogs and encourage mob mentality" - people just disapointed by such SUDDEN thing
3. haha, so what we hear here? sounds offencive... i dont know about community, but you lost me partialy from this time.

its good to hear about 24 hrs, looking forward to see miracle...

p.s. its better to rool back to old GG site, while making this new working in full functionality

@Caylo Gypsyblood - What do you need from the website to help you code, design, or generally work on your project?

I *might* be able to help.

@Maxim

1. There has been no mention of rolling back to the old site, so I wouldn't bank on it.

2. I've seen the blogs and posts. Most are extremely productive and help us prioritize what needs to be fixed. I've seen others posts that simply show discontent (still fine). Then the are a few that are completely unhelpful, are low blows, and not needed/wanted

3. I don't think I can reply, since I'm not sure you understood my point.

Quote: "its good to hear about 24 hrs, looking forward to see miracle... "

Please do not think I said everything will be fixed in 24 hours. I was simply stating that too little time has passed to give up on us.

I'll do what I can help with navigation. If there is something absolutely critical to your project you need from the site let me know. Otherwise, this is probably a good time to get away from the community and "just code" =)

I've been an owner of GG products for the last 4 years.

The last change they did to the website a few years ago was ok, they screwed up the searching feature and never got it working as it should have, even though there were lots of complaints. But overall, it was a nice site, lots of pictures. Made you interested in what people were doing and the products supplied by GG. Navigation around the site was good, and lots of forums.

This site, seems to be a major step backwards. No pictures, no glowly warm feel. Just a hard dark blue we don't care feeling. I give GG cudoes for creating it, but honestly, please take it down and put the old site back up, at least until you can fix all the issues and reimplement features like screenshots we had on blog previews.

i am not coder, i am an artist mostly... so,i cant "get away from the community and `just code` "... sorry
also want to ask u here, why instead of making final product - gg place that version of the site? why not making all things working, than release to public use?

I think the site looks rather nice. In fact.. the only issue I have with the color scheme would be the white in the forums. It's somewhat blinding to me.. no color to break it up per say.

Other issues I have would be constructor forum went on vacation, No edit functions for any postings anywhere, No pop-up for url examples (sorry got really use to that lol), No difference in forums between owners, associates.. employees.., and well.. I could go on but I already listed them somewhere else.

The thing is.. its only day 1... and I'm sure they are going to be fixing things.. making changes so things are more useable. Don't start with all the "world is ending ohhh nooooeessssssss!".. give them alittle time.

~LK~

ps- I will say this.. the site is twice as fast now for me!

Michael, from what I can tell you are the only one at GG that is talking to the community and right now you have my sympathy for that. Might I suggest posting a locked blog (no comments allowed) with a list of items that are going to be addressed. That way we can use it to see what is going to be fixed, and any changes that may occur. That should help keep the wolves at bay. A lot of users feel like their apple cart has been turned over by the changes, others feel like it was turned over and stolen. But the faster you can put visability on what is going to be addressed the faster you will calm everybody down. Chalk this up to a learning experience and the next time GG wants to over haul the site try using the associates for beta testers and usability. I trust them and so do most of the other users.

I too echo a lot of complains others have mentioned. One thing I still do not understand is what the hell are the web designers still using a fixed width page web design?! This isn't the late 1990's, get with the program and start supporting dynamic page sizes by using CSS standards.

This site design feels like a complete failure just like sourceforge. Look at the community page and its exactly like the project information page on sourceforge where you have to click on each section to get the information you need of which should have stayed all on a single page view.

@Maxim - If you aren't programming or making art, what are you doing? There isn't much on the site that is related to game design. Are you just recruiting?

I'm not part of the web team, so I will not speak for them. I'm documentation and community.

I have to say again, if I can help you find someone on the site, I can. But I need to know what you NEED to work on your project.

I have also noticed that I now cannot edit posts nor is there a post preview that should have been implemented a long time ago. Wow this site just keeps getting more and more backwards.

@Everyone - I feel pretty bad for not being able to reply to every post like I usually do, but I only have so much time today to do my community work. 100% sincere when I say "I'm sorry if I can't respond to every post"

Make sure you scan the bug list thread over in the forum: GarageGames->Site Feedback. If there is something you need addressed and it's not on the list, please please post.

@Ryan - Thanks for the support =)

It's funny to see an employee defend the new and demand patience, especially when the new has been so long in the making. How long has it been? Two years? Well you/they (that's a non-specific "you") did say it was coming soon more than a year and half ago. We did expect bugs Michael, but to see such a crippling of functionality and spirit that GarageGames used to have is disheartening especially considering the recent general discontent already evoked by GG changes.

This was Maxim's blog to note his overall dislike, and for others to discuss it, there was nothing wrong or inappropriate about that. Criticism can be harsh and unwanted at times but it's all valid.

Oh cmon, give it a while to adjust; the other site was that good because it was adjusted accordingly in time. I miss it but I don't want it back; Move on :)

*cant edit previous post. arrrgh :(

just want to say, its hard to be with community without those tools... need to build new ways to communicate (not this site from now)... even if new site will be working, i will move all of those content offline, cause i dont know, maybe there is another "update" coming...
well, i will stay here, but 50% time will use another site or another way to talk to ppl, when all will work fine - i will think to return here, may be

@silentMike - His original blog contained various phrases similar to "fucking shitty". That's why it grabbed my attention.

You bet I'm going to defend "the new" and change, because that's how companies AND communities survive and grow. It was a change for GG to hire me as a dedicated doc engineer. It was change to provide online and offline docs. On the surface those seem like good changes, but there are faults and drawbacks.

This next part may seem like a petty argument over words, but I have to do it. I do not want my words to sound like "demands." I'm not a push over, but I always try and "ask" with "pleases." I can get hot every once and a while, but I do my best to revert back to a calm mindset.

Our opinions of the the community and the spirit of GG may not be in line right now, but I left a higher paying job and moved my family across the country for a good reason.

Speaking as a prof s/w engineer, large roll-outs are always a pain.

One thing I've learned is that users are better, than the QA department, at catching bugs. Things break when they hit the wild.

1 day is no biggy. Yes, its disheartening, but oh well. It'll correct: they're business depends on it. They aren't stupid.

I'm going to take tonight as 'vacation' and hit my design books instead, maybe work on background algorithms that don't need the community features et al.

Take you're time GG -- rushing only makes things worse. I'll be here, so will most everyone else.

Hi guys, the old page had really a warm feeling to it. This page... well I don't like it. The color sheme is cold, the functionality is crippled, etc etc. If oyu guys worked 2 years on it, it showed that not many people tested it.

I was concerned reading about so many good people leaving GG. Now it really feels like a total difefrent thing. And a very unattractive one too. I simple don't like it. It's a huge step backwards!

You're an awesome artist, Maxim, and I would really not like it if you gave up on us now. This is a massive change, and yes, we know it. And some stuff did definitely get lost in the transition. The webteam is working on getting a chunk of that stuff that people feel strongly about integrated into the new site. Some things will not be, though, because the back-end is much cleaner and more organized now; and putting in the old functionality and/or code would be a huge mistake in terms of maintaining the code.

What the hell just happened to the site? Huge mindblow coming in here expecting yellow hugs full of fun looking game pics, and instead getting white cold documentation.

I guess GG is trying to look more professional now that they have a new professional business model. If that's the case, then I don't think the name "Garage" Games is appropriate anymore.

I don't like, but I'm not angry either. You gotta do what you gotta do. In time, those of us who remember the old site will probably look back at it as busy, cluttered and maybe even a little childish.
