There's a Surprise Inside!

Or... How is this post like a box of CrackerJacks?

So in my last post I said that the free update for my FPS Environment Pack was coming with "a few surprises". Now that most of those surprises are just about nailed down I thought I would give everyone a sneak peek.

Aside from the spring time version of the original environment...

The new demo environments will include shiny goodness of the Modernization Kit by Alex Scarborough.

I like to try to showcase community resources that I would want to make games with whenever I can, and the Modernization Kit, which is still in beta, is a very cool. There is more to it than just fancy water, but you can grab it and check out the details over on the MK thread.

Tom Feni has been very generous and donated some very cool animated butterflies to the update. They look great and really help add life to the setting.

And last but definitely not least. Thanks to Jon Jorajuria, Tim, Joe, and many others, I am really happy to be able include...

But it ain't done just yet. Its very close, but there is still a little work to do here and there before it's just right. I want to get the butterflies moving around the fields, there are some normal maps to polish, and user docs to update. And if the timing works out I may be able to add a few other goodies.

Thats all for now, I have to get back to work.

The amount of cool looking s**t coming out of this community at the moment is jus crazy and your one of the kingpins Todd :) Great stuff man. In the second shot I dunno if it is just the building texture but I would drop the ambient light a little to enhance the contrast, it will make the scene jump out more.

Hey, this is perfect!!
Really great stuff Todd! Waiting for an update...
P.S. I have TGEA license, but don't use it for now, but hey, I'll grab it at the day of release just to have a look how it looks like in "life" on my own build :)

Keep it up Tood, and thanks a lot!

Wow!, Thank you everyone for the great encouragement, and sorry for the delayed response, I have been very busy today and am just now getting a chance to check back.

@ Tom, Thanks once again for the generosity, I know that users will enjoy the little details like the butterflies and that it will help give them other ideas to explore on their own.

@ Sean and JS, Thanks very much. My sister said more or less the same thing, "could I make it into a screen saver for her". Response like that tells me I must be getting something right, which is always good to know, because I am not always so sure.

@ Ando, I couldn't agree more! The past week or so has been like spring in bloom for the all of the great stuff I keep seeing posted and announced. I have a lot of respect for the work I have seen you do, thanks for the praise, it means a lot.

You are also right about the lighting I think. I am still not 100% happy with the lighting, and I am combining a number of elements to get the atmospheric look I am aiming for. I will keep tweaking it right up until the final build..and then I will probably keep tweaking after that ;O)

@ Joshua, Jon, Tom B, Thanks very much. Yup, all in game, those shots are from TGE 1.5 and of course the single TGEA teaser. I have a lot of other stuff laying around that may or may not make it in to the update, we will have to see how things go.

@ bank, Sorry to keep you and everyone who is interested in it waiting. No one wants to see it released more than me, trust me. I hope you enjoy it when it does release and thanks for the encouragement.

@ Rubes, Chip, Andy, Steve, and Kory, Thank you guys very much. Kory, it literally does "sound great", thanks to the sound work by Jon Jorajuria, He has hooked up great new sounds for the spring environment, the demo movie, and even the menus!

@ Alan, I should say the same thing about your work, the stuff you just posted is fantastic! Anyone who hasn't seen it should check it out Here

And as for "someday", I would say thats looking like now my friend.
