Undead Legion Characters - 3d Content Pack

by Peter Kojesta · 06/01/2006 (9:51 pm) · 28 comments

We've launched another set of packs for the community. This time it's a couple of serious undead baddies. There are three distinct chatacters in the line-up. Each can be purchased individually, or as a collection to save money and download annoyances.

The pack includes the undead shaman, the undead warrior, and the evil undead berserker. They're all animated, and include 512x512 diffuse, bump, and specular textures. All the exports are setup, and you can just plug them right into Torque.

Make sure to check them out, and all of our other content available on the Exis Exchange.com (click on characters or collections along the top)

Mostly just the things you were asking for didn't make any sense. Swimming, sitting, and napping undead warriors? Multiple death animations are soooo five years ago, if you want dynamics for that you add a ragdoll system now =P. Collision boxes... aren't... animated or even a part of players in TGE. I have no idea what you are babling about _smaller_ textures, but it doesn't make any sense, if anything they should be 1024x1024.

It is true they should have the .psd's and legacy support for source files if they're not using any unique Max7 features. And I do agree they aren't unique enough. I think they could have more distinct movement animations, like a frenzied running sequence for a berserker. Also a "berserker" makes me think of something wearing tattered and worn mish mashes of armour, with a cracked and damaged body. A "shaman" sound like something that would have a more intricate and ornate garb as well. They're also a bit low poly given what they could be reduced to with LOD and that they have shader textures (sort of an odd mix of looking lo-fi and hi-fi).

Despite that, Peter is right that this kind of work from a contract artist would costs hundreds and thousands. Also, go look at what they charge for models on a place like turbosquid, you can find much lower quality products being sold for more money than these. It may not be the greatest deal ever (that would be the Tridinaut packs that sold for $10 over the holidays), but it's still well underpriced for the quality of work.

@Alex, IMO, your opinions and criticisms have been constructive. NO rude name calling or otherwise flaming. I think that sometimes the community gets so defensive over the work of another community member that they will tolerate no dissent. However, I think that the pack looks good, and I appreciate Exis' commitment to releasing a good number of content packs to give indie's without art teams good art. That being said, at least in this particular instance, my leanings are similar to yours.

ah this was actually built for a CG Chat contest a while ago..

you can see the submission here...
www.realtimecg.com/template.php?id=Shimmer.php&n=19

considering each model is based off the same mesh, and relies heavily on texture modifications i think its a bit unrealistic to market that here, but hey if it works all the best :)

Hey Peter Kojesta,

RE the two weapon packs you have for sale.

Do the screenshots from your site have a mesh smooth applied?

No Tim,

I don't use meshsmooth for game models.

Wow, they look very nice especially since you're not using any smoothing. The textures are very, very nice as well. I only just saw the screenshots of all your weapons for both packs last night, didn't seem to be working for me before, and they are quite impressive. Good work.

Very nice style there, can I lick it?
*shudders at thought of licking screen*

On a serious note, I think the price is a wee bit high, if thats US dollars, I'd be paying 80 of my NZdollars, can usualy get a new game for that price.

More (alot more) variation in the legs would be a good thing..
