Research
Well after Getting my Bachelors Degree Last year, I luckily got into the Game industry professionally where I have been working as a Technical Game Designer for last 6 months. I have been mostly working with next gen technologies and doing R&D Game Design and Engine Testing.

Since then I have also returned to Graduate Studies to get my Masters Degree in Visual Arts ( Although I do have programming experience as well, but not a CSE major). I am also working as a research assitant at UCSD's new Experimental Game Lab..

(Swhooo I am Tired, its tuff to have 2 jobs, classes and a family.)

I have actually been looking at Torque for the last year or so, and now we are considering using it both here at UCSD and in my own research projects.

For now I need to dig a little deeper into this engine and make some decisions on what to change and to find out what exactly it can do for me and what it can't. I will probably protype a small project in the engines current state and then use that experience to make decisions for the next round.

Some Ideas!

Better TOOL Set!!.. definelty need to do something the Content pipeline situation. ( New Editor Solution)
Integrated Physics System would be nice.
Better Lighting Model

Well, now off to dig in to this baby and see what I can do with it.

Lighting Model go here... Anyone who has it will tell you its worth it...

GG is busy updating some of the tools... and my honest opinion is that there's nothing wrong with what we have... The tools you use to export your models are basically up to you...

Physics would be nice... Hmmmm.... I think 'nice' is an understatement ;)

If you want to look at improving the art pipeline the most important thing that you could do would be looking at some way to convert 3D data built in programs such as Max, Maya, Lightwave or XSI to a Valve .Map format. There have been programs in the past that have converted from a format such as a 3DS file to a MAP FYI.

Physics and Lighting are less important IMHO (especially lighting since John Kabus has the market cornered with the beautiful Lighting Pack).

Phyics == GOOD

Synapse seems to have the lighting thing down, and of course there's TSE but that's a little different...

I'm hoping that after T2D hits (can I pre-order!?) with its awesome physics that more built-in physics will be in TGE as a result of that experience.

AI is another area, but I keep hearing about an AI pack due soon. It's too bad that the AI had to be REMOVED from Tribes when they bought the code base (though that may not have been a "one size fits all" AI solution anyway).
