That's a loaded question... AND you should really use the forums, not the blog.

Please use the latter of the two for your questions.

that was funny.

To try to answer your question you mainly need MONEY.

lots of it.

The only reason this community isnt any better than some ive seen is that it doesnt try to help the noobs, rather it laughs in their faces and gives little reason to trust the community as a whole. If I were you Id lead by example and at least point the noobs in a starting direction.....

@Taisen
You want to start making games, the first thing you and anyone else needs to do is read, and I mean lots of reading. Use your local search engine and figure out if you want to create games at all. If you still do, then do more reading and find out what you want to do, 2d games or 3d games, both have their dificulties and challenges. Then you need to go and research, do lots of reasearch, My bro and I spent almost a year researching what game engine to use and what would be the easiest. Torque is not necessarily the easiest but it is an option, there are alot open source and "payfor" options.

Once you figure out what kind of game you wanna make go to a local book store or Amazon.com and pick up a copy of one of the "game programing all in one" books and read it all the way threw before you purchase any game engine, those are torque based books if you still want to learn torque. Both the 3dGpai(game programing all in one) and Gpai have tutorials on how to produce every part of a game, these are very good tuts, you can also find more online if you skim threw the crap.

Game programming is not easy but once you have enough research behind it you will get it over time, its been almost a year since my brother and I have purchased the tge and we have nothing to show for it, nore will you for sometime, its a long drawn out extensive process that if you stick by you will be proud of it in the end.

@everyone else
I know yall just delight from hearing the hundreds of these a year, you dont have to be a jerk to help get a point across, you just got to have link to a starting point......

I guess some people are hardened because we keep saying the same things to the newbies over and over again, and even as a newbie I never believed it. So telling them what they don't want to hear isn't going to help them.

Richard Pettyjohn   (Aug 13, 2007 at 19:43 GMT)
ARK, maybe if "noobs" would actually try to kind of sound professional and like they actually care, then we would be more inclined to help them out.

Saying things like "how do i put my game into my wii or xbox can u put them in xbox 360" doesn't even make sense and that sentence (if you can call it that) doesn't even have a '?' to show that he wants an answer.

Richard is correct here. The community is very friendly to new developers. When I was new I had lots of questions and had no trouble getting answers.

The problem here isn't newbies.. its "noobs". Little kids who have no real concept of how the world works, expect everything to be handed to them, and generally lack the maturity or intelligence to figure out the most trivial of tasks on their own.

There is nothing we can do for these people except hope they come back in 3-5 years when they are more prepared to be in the community.

I agree with Richard and Peter.

He is starting out WAY too big, for someone whoprobably has no game design experience what so ever.
First he asks how to make a MMO now how to put something on a console. He's starting out way too big.

Haha, yeah I'm being totally serious . . . *wishes his first game was Everquest, it probably would have been his last too*
