Recently completed a review of the latest hardware. Nanotechnology and it's implementation in game development processes. As well as a study of GPU's. I thought I knew a good deal but didn't know much about the worstation class Nvidia Quadro GPU line.

This came about from my interest in Maya. I was upset the 6800 and 7800 where not on the qualified hardware listing for Maya 7. Anyway well the Maya PLE edition works fine with my 6800 GT for the moment.

So I am now saving up for a copy of Maya standard edition and a new Intel bases Nano machine PC upgrade. I would like to get a Dell 30 inch but may settle for a 24. I can't move my neck all day long because I have 4 bad disks in the neck. So I need to only have 1 good monitor with a switchbox. The center being a new .65 NM CPU from Intel. They have been good to me over the years since the first pc's came out. I did study the AMD's 939 series. Good stuff but I still want to own the new nano toy. I'll either build my own with a new Asus SLI motherboard or get a Dell workstation. I'll decide that closer to the end of the year as far as specs.

I have put on ice T2d/TGE but I keep my eye on it to keep up to snuff. My main focus is on TSE, I am addicted to it. It's so sweet. I also dream / nightmare about constructor. The nightmare is like being in Tower of London being tortured on the release date. Ok also leanring Blender 2.41, it too it sweet at pie.
And outstanding tool for General public license.

In RL, I can't find my koi, argh this weather. Well I think I killed one too. I was feeding them really late. And it went from 89 to 20 in 1 day. The next morning I found "hotlips" a prized Kohaku koi (white and orange) floating belly up. No I can't see if any of my other 5 koi are in the 2000 gallon pond lol. It's murky pea soup. Even my high power scuba light can't cut thru the muck. I also have just migrated my reef tank to an Current USA Aquapod 12 nano reef. They have some blue LED's for moon light which is cool.

I had a nano reef until I moved recently. I gave everything away. It was a cool little tank with mostly coral, but also had one clown and some little cleaning crew critters (crabs etc). Also had a midsized saltwater tank with all sorts of fish, but no coral. Even had a horseshoe crab :)

Sounds like that computer is gonna be expensive! Post some pics of your setup when you get it all done. Right now I have a AMD 4200+ Dual Core and its great...also have a 7800gt GPU. One thing that sucks is that one of my sticks of RAM is bad, so I only have 512 megs right now. Luckily it has a lifetime warranty. The coolest thing is my monitor. 21" Samsung LCD :D

If you can't move your neck much, sitting in front of a 24" or 30" monitor may not be a great idea. If it's too close, you'll end up having to turn your head just to keep track of the windows.

Admitedly, if you can sit far enough away from it to take it all in without turning your head, go for it :)

fyi, i doubt the dell 30" will work with a switch box. i belive it requires 2 DVI inputs to operate.

and... i dunno, 30" is really only good for gaming or movies. just buy 2 17" and pocket the other $2800 bucks. That extra 1" gap inbetween (beveled edge) isnt going to effect how much your neck moves.

but i know i know... 2x 17" just isnt SEXY now is it ;)

My wife was really big into the fish but along came baby... so she just sold everything. It would be cool to get that going again.

It requires DVI - D which is an extra 4 pins. That means the DVI switchbox would have to support all pin connectors. @JasonS, Yea I want the 30 inch and the high res mode to work with art. Layout space. Having 2 or 3 monitors would require me to pivot the head and that's what I need to avoid.

I have had configurations before like 3 21' crt's on a Mac II running microstation and other things for the military. That was 12 years ago though. @Philip, yes that has to be considered. I have to hold the head in the position where the disks are flat. So as long as I configure it properly the ergonomics should check out. And still give me a ton of workspace.

I guess I really decided my focus is going to be on digital art so hence the need for a beefy machine.
