....Rev 365 update

Well, Ari managed to get the bulk of the CSK (combat starter kit) engine code into Ruin. Its not all "playable" in the live client yet, but for the most part all of it is working in the dev build. This includes:

Upgraded (much better) ground and air vehicles
Ground and vehicle-mountable turrets (needing work still)
Control point 'flags'
Fixed stances (prone, crouch, swim)
Better weapon code
Commander map
Few other less notable goodies... oh, did I mention:

Parachutes?!

Those have been pretty fun.

In addition to the CSK implements Ari got some more updates in there too:

Enhanced bullets (they are smarter and prettier).
Jetpacks (yes!), hmm what else...?
Much better human skins now, some animation tweaks.

Upcoming:
Moe, Rex and I have been putting some final touches on the 1.0 release of the Ruin Male character and his source files, code-named: ACK! (advanced character kit). LOD's, full clothing stack, multi-racial, about a million anims.

Big rewrite of the DB is underway. Pretty crazy stuff Ari is doing there, will be a couple weeks before we see it live, maybe sooner. Characters, or at least their inventories will probably have to get smoked to test properly, so enjoy the lazer katanas while you have em...

As promised here's a movie. Basically a feature demo, but if you can't tell we were role-playing out a 'lil story too! Nothing to be alarmed about... just us expressing our creativity!

that's about it for now...

uh that hand to hand combat is that you guys or another CSK feature 1.01. I mean the hits were making contact in real time I mean its not mo-cap or virtua fighter but it was pretty darn close. I half expected her to back flip and everything else when she lead them out on the big platform and all. :)

The combat anims are all from Ruin Online, not CSK. Most of the anims shown are old, from when we first implemented our melee system. We have recently (since after this video was shot) begun to retool ALL the animations from Ruin... they are looking much better.

Backflips are on the way. Took awhile to figure out how to roll those out in Torque, I am thinking as Run replacements, so you can just backflip/front flip off into the distance. We're also considering a flip as a doublejump.

Part 2 of previous video.
The melee system has been cultivated over years and is what we at BAG consider the future of fighting/fps games.
It still lacks throws/grabs (tandem animations) and a good interface for specials, but that should be cleared up soon.
Keep an eye on those characters because they will be available for purchase soon (yes, with all the clothes, skins, hair, anims, etc.).
Once AFX is combined with the melee specials it should have the feel of FF7+Tekken+Virtua Fighter (that is one of our goals).
The action in the video is what is live in Ruin and is currently online for download/play/test on our website.
There is a serious bug with excess gore/blood that can crash the server (which is on auto reload that takes aout 60 seconds) but beyond that and a collision bug it's fairly stable.
Expect a 1.1GB download, Ruin is not a small Torque project by any means, it is an attempt at a next generation MMO.
Our patcher/updater system is based off of SVN so that we can get our current work out to players as fast as clicking "Commit".

Special thanks to the BAG team (who work on Ruin for FREE), DGI and the GG community!
We'll keep wrenching on Ruin until most of you can't help but come play it with us!
