Develop some simple non-violent games for my family
I'm new to Toque but have been a software developed for over five years, working on several different types of simulation applications.

I'm really tired of all the violent games out there. Games that teach our children how to shoot and kill. I want to develop family oriented and educational games/simulations.

Not sure what to start with, may be some kind of building game, that involves counting.

I too am developing a non-violent game, though actually it's just how your character responds that is non-violent (enemies still attack with violence, though not extreme).

There's a great article on video game violence on Gamasutra:
http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20040903/kent_01.shtml

"I do not think violence is a way of immersing players as much as a way of getting their attention. It's almost like slapping somebody in the face; and now that you have their attention, you need to keep their attention."

another great comment:

"[Violence in video games] could have a lot to do with the maturity of the industry. The movie industry is nearly one century old, whereas the game industry is relatively new."

The video game industry is still gleefully running amok with the possibilities that violence affords... but one day, it will mature.

Good luck.

Hi Joshua,

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I would most definatly agree that violence is an easy way to get peoples attention. Thats why so many people do it.

I'll make sure and check the link, thanks!

I'm looking for ideas on what GG customers might be looking for when it comes to games, any thoughts / suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

Christian
