It's all about persistence.
Paintball Net continues its slow march forward. Not much new to report, though.

In my book I stress the importance of persistence. You have to keep on moving forward, no matter how slow it seems, no matter how far away the end of the project seems to be. The only way you ever get anything done is to Just Keep Working On It. One step at a time, one foot after the other, until you cross the finish line. If you trip, you get back up and continue where you left off.

In independent game development, you only fail if you quit.

"Never give up! Never surrender!" --Peter Quincy Taggert ;-)

And I am sure all of the PBN'ers out there will continue to be patient as you continue the programming. Keep up the excellent work!

David, are you ok? I only see one plug for your book? ;)

Did they change the cover? Looks less wild than before.

Shame they're taking their sweet time to actually publish it. Is September actually correct?

Paul Dana   (Jun 27, 2003 at 14:16 GMT)
my wife and I refer to it as "moving the rock". It's not important that you spend time working. You have to move the rock for it to matter.

Good luck and godspeed.

Horatio Bacon   (Jun 29, 2003 at 19:47 GMT)
Its great to see another update! Good luck with programming the game. If you have ever seen "What About Bob?" with Bill Murray, remember that it is all about the "baby steps" Good luck friend.

P.S. Are you going to use some of your budget towards advertising the game once it comes out? I know thats a long way down the road!Let us know!

DavidRM   (Jul 02, 2003 at 17:10 GMT)
Hey, Gareth! I'll try to work in more plugs in the future... =)

Same cover, just smaller now. CRM cover art only takes up a small portion of the actual cover.

The publishing schedule has actually been moved up. The book should be available in August now. I'm pretty excited about it. =)

Hey RM, it's me Randy. I was just wondering, can you give a rough estimate of when we should expect this? I've been waiting forever, it can't come soon enough. Thanks.

Todd "Randy" Billingham   (Jul 03, 2003 at 06:34 GMT)
Ooops I also forgot... Modru... any relation to a Phillip Coffelt? Computer teacher in Ohio, high school. He was a teacher of mine, big gamer. If you have any info::: senorsmash123@yahoo.com

Thanks

Hey David,
Please tell us that the new paintball game will have some need for skilled players...? That pure running around shooting isn't gonna cut it?

I love the sneaking around such as Splinter Cell, mixed with action of course. Team oriented stratigies are a plus too!

Any *sneek peak* info on how tempo of the game will be?

Shane Kelly   (Aug 10, 2003 at 20:07 GMT)
Hey David i know u dont no me....i never played PBN but ive played every other paintball game out there, like HVPB and H-VPB and UPO and i think i know a good way to advertise for ur game if u want me to.

Mark "ViperX" Jr.   (Aug 15, 2003 at 03:28 GMT)
No offense Shane, but I have a feeling what your "good way to advertise" is and David is highly capable of advertising.

Anyway, I'm glad to see the progress is moving along, although slowly, it is good to see that things are moving forward.

Keep it up!

Shane Kelly   (Aug 23, 2003 at 00:42 GMT)
Alrite, Alrite ill keep my mouth shut till the game comes out.

Jeffrey Mui   (Aug 25, 2003 at 20:34 GMT)
hey, keep up the good work. i got a question though, will the new PBN be on one big server where everyone joins, or will everyone be able to make their own field, cause on the main screen on samugames.com it says "host a field" or "join a field". so im wonderni if it'll be like it was a few years ago.

Todd "Randy" Billingham   (Aug 25, 2003 at 23:55 GMT)
Uhm just one thing, people are talking about strategy and stuff and teamwork blah blah blah... I don't know about others but I am hoping that you stick to the way PBN was, it could be 5v1 and people could come back and win, I know cause I had done it and seen it done. I dont like the idea of depending on others to win or lose, you should be able to control your own fate. I think it should be like PBN, very much, shoot, I dunno about the rest of you, but if you put up new servers with the exact same PBTerm Client and called it PBN2 I couldn't he happier. Anyways, anything new RM? And when does BETA start?

Dennis Jenders   (Sep 03, 2003 at 16:22 GMT)
David -

Glad to see that progress is still being made. Congrats on the book, the games, and thanks for all the effort over the years!

It's nice to see some names here that I recognize. I can't wait to see the new version of the game. But honestly, deep down in my heart I miss the old version!

Open source it baby! I'll even sign an NDA just so I can play it on my own server, all by myself! Vaderz all day!

Thanks again and i look forward to seeing your next incarnation of the game. I'll have to stop by periodically to see what's up!

Enjoy what's left of Summer.

Dennis "The one and only original 'Dennis' from PBN - ID 2233" Jenders

P.S. How sick is it that I remember my ID?

Jay "KewlDude" Counter   (Sep 07, 2003 at 13:47 GMT)
Ahh, 2 months without word, I can't sleep at night, haha. Dennis: I'm with ya buddy, good ol' 104002 ;). I think remembering my old username was hard enough, "jussghypwnfghf" hehe. Kinda ironic this is happenin on the Torque Engine, I just bought Tribes2 yesterday, I'm addicted. Can't wait to get more word.

Yep. It sure has been a while since the last plan. What's going on with the game here? It really would be nice to know.

Oh, and if any of you would remember, this is Pop n Fresh from PBN. Heh

Matt "HURRICANE" Eastman   (Oct 31, 2003 at 02:54 GMT)
this is crazy, like every once in a while I would check to see if PBN was coming back, lol, its the only game I ever got addicted to. I'm so stoked. Well, hope it is up soon. oh yeah, i was The Bat Commander.

Coleman Nitroy   (Nov 05, 2003 at 18:13 GMT)
I don't know if this has been asked before, but what is the plan for clients on other platforms. I would very much like to see a mac and or linux client, especially since you are using Torque ;-), not doing so would be silly. Need a machine to build it on (mac or linux) I'd glady donate some cpu time.

Lew Woolsey   (Nov 11, 2003 at 20:26 GMT)
Why dont we just throw up old PBN on a server, im not even excited about this anymore. I dont know whats going on but.. if you really want to make money, or have a good player base, just go back to what was working, the 2-D PBN, people would pick it up instantly, i dont really believe it ever needed any improvement, lord knows i loved it.

John Familo   (Nov 17, 2003 at 14:12 GMT)
I'm still excited. PBN owned... I played PBN before I started playing Counter-Strike and other various First Person Shooters. I have become tired of them all, but I would still play PBN if it was still around. Get this thing running already!
-Fam (121542) Try that for remembering an ID =D

I would tend to believe we havent seen an update because has updated his other game "Artifact". Also dont forget the title of this plan... "It

Jonathan   (Nov 26, 2003 at 01:04 GMT)
Styxx here - I can't believe it's finally coming back! One question, kinda off topic: Will we be able to keep our old levels? I mean, lvl 40 had it's price! ;)

Billy McElwee   (Nov 29, 2003 at 06:25 GMT)
The old PBN is still being talked about a lot. All the new 'clones' and what not are ok, but none even compare to PBN. Everybody would love to see the old PBN brought back. We have no idea how much progress David making. Maybe the new PBN 2 should be scrapped, and the old PBN brought back. Everybody would love it. It'd be like the feeling you get on Christmas morning when you're 7 years old or something. =) I think he'd make a killing.

First of all, merry X-mas to all of you!

Second, they are still working on the game, just very very very very very slowly.

3th, lets all bump RM to put up a new update when ya talk to him.

4th, PBN1 prolly won't ever run again, regardless of how much we all would love it!
I begged RM for it lots of times :P
Maybe I'll try again soon :)

Wuts up guys. I don't know if any of you remember me but its me the original cArTmAn - (ID:65254). I hope all you guys have an awesome New Years and I am glad to recognize so many names from PBNet that brings back memories of the good old splatting times. I read all the reviews and since its been 6 months since the last one i decided to log in and put in some words. My favourite game ever was PBN1 and I can't wait till PBN2 comes back even though i would be more than happy with the return of the original PBNet. I tried HVPB and its just not the same... I barely recognize any names on there and I just dont get the same feeling when I play it. I hope the new PBN2 comes out soon and David please post a next update for all us eager paintballers. Anyways this is gettin too long so im out guys.

take care guys

Nick Besser   (Jan 15, 2004 at 20:52 GMT)
Hey guys, this is Griffey... I just thought I'd let you guys know why RM hasn't updated in so long. Don't listen to Magyc and RM being "busy with 'stuff.'" When I heard PBN2 was coming out I decided to pay Mr. M a visit, and when I gazed into his eyes I knew he was the one for me. So I preformed a two-leg take down and put him in a fireman's carry, then drugged the guy and we went to Vegas to get married. I realized I didn't have enough gas to get to Vegas so I brought RM to the basement. I have since been forming a vast army, one child at a time, so we can take over the world. As soon as this little side project is done he'll get back to our little paintball game.
