Blog post
Howdy ladies and gents, I'm Artgirl from ARTPAKZ.com, a new site catering to Indie Developers' graphic needs in the form of themed Art Packs. I've been a lurker here (and a few other developer sites) for awhile now and gathered up a very small group of artists (myself included) to bring to you an idea I've had for quite some time.

I figured that before any of you Programmers out-sourced game art for the classic and popular games your making (especially since some of you are not 100% sure what you need), you may be interested in spending just $15 or so to get a small Art Pak or two (or three :) ) that'll allow you to quickly get your game to a presentable and visually appealing level.

No need to have your coding time hindered because you're waiting for or creating graphics.

I hope you have need for my creation and feedback is always welcome :)

Ah...pixel art...my old love. Too bad I never was THAT good at it...I remeber looking up to the greats like Indigo and Chessmaster in the pixel art community I frequented...good times, good times...

Nice idea, I think you'll do well. Get a load more content on the site so you can cross-sell packs and you'll get a load of people interested I think!

Hah, I was wondering when someone was going to do this. Very nice execution.

Thanks everybody :) Although these Art Pakz are not truly sprite work (as they are anti-aliased), they are created in that vein.

We've also had wonderful feedback thus far and a lot of site suggestions too. Look for small changes to be incorporated (like a fully automated store) and I have now implemented a private Mailing List.

We are gunning to release another 4 Art Pakz within the next two weeks (they've been in development for a bit now) and will keep everyone updated :) In the meantime, we are open for business :)

OK -- I've had a chance to review the "Microbe" PAK, some of you may have seen my brief review of the Lady Bug Run PAK in the forums (Which, btw, I'm actually writing "Lady Bug Run" in TGB and its going great thus far).

Some of the suggestions that Artgirl received in the forums were implemented into the Microbe PAK I had a chance to review, and I must say, it's great -- the PSD contains all the layers for the background art, however, the Microbe PAK did not contain the 'ship' artwork (the Lady Bug PAK Contained the Bugs in the PSD).

The sprite sheet contains some added 'empty' frames, but overall is laid out in such a way as to make level creation and animation editing much easier -- the artwork is clean (as is evident by the screenshots) and combined with a few nice sounds and a little hard work, you could have a Space Invaders clone up and running in no time with Torque Game Builder.

I must say, I am much more impressed with the Lady Bug Run PAK then I am with the Microbe PAK, but my impressions are also biased as I'm not really fond of Space Invaders -- the artwork in both PAK's is unbelievably clean, very 'new age' and VERY 'retro' -- The pixel art style, with the subtle shadowing and glossing is a beautiful touch.

What more can i say other then "WOW, It's Great" --

Artgirl did a great job, and I can't wait for the 4 new PAK's she announced to come out in the next few weeks --

Great job Artgirl!
