I'd like to know how many games were submitted. Maybe even a little write up about why these were chosen?

Hey guys, I am sure there will be more content soon, but since the GG guys are all busy at GDC, where we would all like to be... we will need to be a littlle patient for more news. Maybe tonight before they start beer crawl again?? maybe tomorrow when they are hungover again???? I dunno lol.

Of those 5 only trash can be found around the web really and Trash: wasted earth isnt due for realease till spring

Yeah I'll vouch for Trash, it's a fantastic Indie game which has never stopped improving, and although I'm too busy to play in anything other than the tournaments, if I was to return to any game it'd be Trash again.

More links would be useful. Looks like Day of War is in quite early production, but it looks okay. Not sure how it would fare in big battles on lower end comps though.

As for Trash, It's considered "Beta", Aidan, but it has certainly been released. It's a great game, and as Chris mentioned above, is constantly being improved upon. It's free to download, for 32-way multiplayer action, and the single player aspects are being put into motion right now :)

This is what a quick google search brought me on the above games, CannonBattle site may not be accurate.

DayOfWar - 1st/3rd Person MMO? Looks like a WIP w/o demo.
Switching Gears - 3D action platformer game with Co-op support
Survival - Multiplayer zombie survival game - Looks pretty cool, base placement and defense .
CannonBattle? - No details here, coming in 2009??

Can't find any reference to Grudgematch on search engines, and Affectworks seem to simply be the developer of Switching Gears and Survival.

Trash is an online and offline fast action RTS game based in a post-apocalyptic future. You can either control Humans or Mutants to smash your opponents. All mechanical units, buildings, and weapons are built from the trash that litters the wastelands where the surviving species fight for dominance. Nuclear radiation mutated some of the survivors producing super beings. These now hunt people then mutate them into their own kind. Mutants shun the simple weapons and gas powered machines humans use. From remote viewing to teleportation, mutants prefer using their superhuman abilities. Using parts mostly found in landfills and junkyards, Humans can rig together formidable war machines. Their technology is simple but effective. They favor conventional weapons like guns, artillery, and flame throwers. Crude structures made of trash form their compounds. Their motorcycles, cars, and trucks require large supplies of gas. The Game was created by Mark Currie and was built from ground to top with the Trash community.

I thought that since everyone here wanted to know more about the games I would give some links and information about our games.

Switching Gears is, as mentioned above, a 3d action platformer and the first game that we developed in the Torque engine. It is about a very... 'modular'... package delivery robot named 'Gears' who lives in a city controlled and ran by an outside occupying force. Not wanting to give away the story, I will just say that in order to make your deliveries, in co-op mode, Gears will have to use teamwork and the mutating powers of his ruined world to figure out the puzzles.
There is a playable demo at the Switching Gears site at www.switchinggearsgame.com We have many plans for many more co-op puzzles then what the demo shows so stay tuned :)

Survival is the game we created as a proof of concept in about 7 weeks after hearing about the contest. It is a FPS, Resource gathering, base building, survival game and let me tell you, there is nothing like blowing the limbs off over 100 zombie while they try to tear down the base you are building to make you forget about your troubles :) We have always wanted to play a game like this... so we made it :) check out our post on this game at

It is really cool to have both Switching Gears and Survival in this contest and I would also like to congratulate all the finalists and thank everyone here in the community and elsewhere for all the kind words and support that has been given for both games.

Thanks everyone for posting info about the games! GDC is just wrapping up and this is the first time I've had a chance to get on the site since the announcement. I'll write up some more coverage on the finalists, the contest in general, and GDC as a whole when I wake up from the coma I'm sure to fall into when I return to Eugene.

I really want to give feedback to everyone who submitted a game too. It probably won't be extremely extensive, but I think everyone who entered deserves to hear feedback on their submission. It's in writing, so you can all hold me accountable if I neglect to do it. :)

Thanks again to all the people who submitted. I got some great entries and I really enjoyed playing your games.

OK, since there's a new link to this thread in the latest IA blog post...

I've updated CannonBattle.com with a few screenshots. It's still fairly sparse, but at least there's more than a logo there now.
