Determinance is coming
Good morning.

Garage Games is a fantastic community, full of talent, ideas, and drive. One of the things we come to learn in this community is that a lot of projects get started, and only a few get finished. We all come to view projects we hear about with hope, excitement, and a fair share of healthy skeptiscism: talk is cheap.

Many of you may have heard of Determinance: the world's first true swordfighting game. Heard things on IRC, read a .plan, or maybe seen a screenshot. I'm sure most of those who did viewed it with that same healthy skeptiscism: a very cool idea, but in Indie development nothing exists until you've seen it with your own two eyes.

Knowing this, we didn't start blowing hot air early. We knew that a true beta was when we thought the game was finished. We knew we'd wait until then to show the world what we have.

This .plan has one purpose: to start the process of moving Determinance from the "if" to the "when" area of your perception. Here is the message:

Determinance is big
Determinance is soon

Gameplay videos: June 28th.
Closed final beta: July 31st.
Release: September 20th.
Full game fully playable at IGC.

freeform fighting, and dynamic music, two subjects i'm very interested in!
i'm looking forward to this from a gamer and a developer perspective, good luck!

great screenshots, if it delivers on its promise of "total freedom" this looks totally awesome
I took a swordfighting class once and immediately saw how cool a "free form" swordfighting game would be
I'm especially interested in hearing more about the "Feint Engine" you're using (created?)
and how you manage to keep the controls from being too complex while at the same time allowing total freedom
don't forget to post a dev snapshot!

I have been watching this game in development for over a year now. Ian is a very talented programmer and I cannot wait to see the communities reaction to his unique game.

I also been following thsi game for a while, and I'm supposedly on the beta. I really can't wait to see what kind of crazy surprises Mr. Hardingham has in store for us.

I'm looking forward to trying this out.

@Ian - Have you ever tried a game called Die by the Sword? I forget who published/developed it but that allowed you to use the mouse to move your sword arm pretty much however you liked and was a lot of fun after a lot of practice.
