Well its official, the holiday season is past us, and as such all the main players in Fantasci officially were on break, well all but me, and the artist who is hopefully getting us a promo cover maybe by Early New Years.
So what are we doing, well, i know our lead programmer got his orders, so that will disrupt our work flow as he settles into his new station. Im reading and working on a old project, increasing some of my programmingn skills, which, has led me to get the new Torque for Teens Book. It is a awesome book for beginners, very good for teens looking to enter the field. I gotta get the advanced one. I need code help. Resources included are kinda cool though, Thanks Frogames.
As Lead this year has had its ups and its downs, this contest as well. Holidays to me, isnt really a religious holiday but its a time to reflect the effects and events of this last year, learn from them and then prepare to learn how to write 2008 rather 2007 on my paper. But yes, we are still working on some small items of fantasci, as im working on new weapon codes, new fx codes, and a bit more understanding that will carry into Fantasci this next year.
We have had some of that team evaporation, but i think that after the new years we will have some surprises just about ready. The single player demo we hope will make some heads turn. We have lots to do. And yes, its true, 2 months without a movie. Mostly because i have swapped hats from my level design to programmer and learner. I am not sure that alot of folks know this about me, but before i bought torque my highest language was BASIC, which means i can read TS wonderfully, but ask me to write it. good luck. Im possibly hoping to maybe even take some programming courses or even a art course. Next year i think will be a year of learning and growth. We hope to get the Fantasci team back, sober and safe, this next new year, and we hope to have some new additions and grow a team and a world that will make a impact on indie games.
So its been a good year for Fantasci, Ups down, and some swift side steps. We have a long way to go to get our demo, with a few months to do it. How is everyone else doing? We see that alot of the Dream Games contestants have fallen out after the halfway meeting. Which leaves a few of us still continuing to blog and progress through a project, that may well take us 2 years to complete.
Most of us have spent the last months scrambling to solidify our projects, gathering a team, writing these blogs, reorganizing their websites, Providing feedback to each other and such. And so what can we expect in these last 3 months of the contest?
This is a question a few of us have been asking ourselves. Who will win the 10k prize. We havent heard anything about that. Who is here for the money? I know most of the groups can use it to put their group into a very good position to set their progress into full swing. With alot of teams loosing members, part time folks loosing interest, such a boon will revive some interest and solve some issues.
So what do we expect to see from Fantasci? We can expect to see, a release of some of our promotional items. Also we hope to have our singleplayer demo/tour out for the contest to have a walk around with for the end of the contest. We have a few items that have taken a bit longer then expected. But We are proud to announce we have been the first team to break 5000 views on this site. Clearly showing the interest folks have to our game. We hope that this next year we will not disappoint folks. After New Years we hope to resume out regularly schedule programming. Its been a rough month.
So what can we expect.
We hope that our artists, Justin and Brian can really put a awesome face, as they create one of our most exciting items, a Fantasci Promotion Comic, yes thats right. Its been a common item to find in alot of modern games. We also have been looking at some team merchanise and if that goes well you might very well see some of us, in our team colors and logo. We have just about finished alot of the framework for the singleplayer demo, with its storyline outlining the prequal it will be a wonderful example of the full version.
In closing, you know, im watching my 3year old son go through this holiday season, and the other night i sat with him and watched Frosty the Snowman. Does anyone ever notice that as we grow older, we forget, we were young and innocent once. We forget that sense of wonder of magic and the world that within our heads. Imagination, Love and freedom to explore those things. Thats one of the keys of the holiday season and life.
Well its almost New years. We once again, pray that if you drink, Be responsible. We want to see everyone safe for another year. From the world of Fantasci we thank you all for returning for another blog.
On a slightly unrelated matter. I have mentioned i am working on another project.
Heres one of the projects im working on.

you will notice that the mech pics are taken in stages, as a progressed through the code, importing into the game through the editor, Mounting and walking. fixing the mounting node and arming it with weapons. The next item will be creating guis that will swap the weapons out at a station. Much like battletech.
We are looking for Artists and Programmers. If you are interested contact me via email or msn at racs333@hotmail.com
Also you can go to our weekly blog for a more complete view of our project. www.mydreamrpg.com/community/showthread.php?t=1594
