Maybe try posting in the FORUMS next time, rather than posting a BLOG post? This is not the place to post a problem, lol. :)

Sorry to be prompt but.

I would consider this bug as a lost cause, if you are still on win98 then please don't buy my game as I will not offer support to you, that was 7-8 years ago and if you are still using it, well you should have tossed up the cash to upgrade before you bought my game.

Although if you do solve this problem with out causing major performance downgrades to xp systems or huge audio overheads in 98, kudos and the community will be greatfull for your contributions.

Then again this is most likely a driver issue and it won't be fixed because support for those drivers has long passed, ug win98.

People still use Windows 98? I thought microsoft ended support for it a month or two ago?

In any case, crackling audio sounds more like a driver/openal issue rather than a torque issue. If you really want to solve the problem, try updating your drivers and directx(if you don't happen to have the latest version for win98, which seem to recall was 8). If all else fails, you'll just have to give in and upgrade to Windows 2000 or XP.

New pc's with Windows XP are pretty cheap nowadays. E.g. you can get a Dell Value laptop for 349 GBP.

You might search the openAL buglist to see if there are problems with the individual sound cards or drivers on Win98.

I still use win98 but I havent had any problems with in-game music. sound fx are a different story though.

That's why I was wondering about OpenAL support of different cards.

I would like to let garage games know that I'm having problems rubbing two sticks together to make fire. Will start saving for some matches.
