Here is my back story for the game that I'm working on. I would like feed back on how the story could be improved. Right now I'm developing this for a class assignment but my final plan is for a commercial product so any advice would be helpful. Please ask questions about the plot if you have any. Thanks
In the year 2010 a German physicist named Edwin Schultz set the world on fire with a new prototype vehicle that could walk like a human. Schultz believed that this new propulsion system would allow the human race an unparalleled method of travel. For the first time, humans could travel anywhere unimpeded by terrain or lack of roads. The shell like nature of the construct led to humans adopting the name 'Armor' for this new mechanical machine.
While Heinz had built this device to serve mankind, the tactical advantages of the walker were well recognized. The Armor could go places even the most rugged tanks could not and gave their human pilots a strength and ability never before realized. Recognizing this, many of earth's countries begun researching the use of the Armors for combat purposes. Fierce nationalism caused world superpowers to compete in a deadly arms race. The build up of Armor technology soon erupted into small conflicts in far-flung parts of the planet. These obscure war zones proved to be both a fertile testing ground for the new weapons. Soon with the exception of the world's smallest nations, most of earth's countries had Armor weapons platforms.
The mass proliferation of Armor units combined with human kind's destructive nature to create a constant state of war on earth. Appalled with the application of his invention, Professor Von Heinz went into hiding. As the conflicts between nations turned into stalemates, leaders of involved parties began to resolve their issues with diplomacy rather than force. Earth became a scorched wasteland and the world fell into an economic depression; the likes of which no one had ever seen. The United Democratic Nations was established to prevent another global conflict.
Most nations ceased their weapons research to deal with the global depression. But the poor nation of Eutoria continued to develop new Armors. The nation's leader, Mikhail Dukov believed that force via the Armor was the only way to make his nation a world superpower. With the world powerless to stop him, Eutorian leader Mikhail Dukov struck quickly against his neighboring countries. The resources he captured only further fueled Mikhail's expansionist efforts. The Eutorian military became known as Iron Hand because of their hard-hitting attacks. The United Democratic Nations (UDN) attempted to stop Mikhail's new weapons, but inferior weapons were powerless against the advanced Armor technology. In just 3 months, Mikhail had managed to conquer most of Europe.
The UDN gained a powerful ally against Dukov when a new mercenary unit known as the Guardians emerged. Made up mostly of ex-Iron Hand soldiers, these mercenaries quickly made themselves a forced to be reckoned with. Territory by territory, the UDN slowly turned the tide against Mikhail and his Iron Hand forces. 2 years after the conflict started, Eutoria was all but defeated. The Guardians were responsible for most of these victories. The Guardians were ardent warriors in spite of their size.
In the year 2020, Mikhail's forces were finally defeated and the Iron Hand Unit was disbanded. The world settled back into a fragile peace. Many nations reduced their Armor amounts by destroying their Armor units. The victory had cost the nations of the UDN many lives and the meager resources that they had available. The world's nation sank deeper into depression. When things seemed to be at their darkest, several massive, Texas-sized vessels began to appear over the seas of the world. The meteor like objects revealed themselves to be floating cities and the visitors soon made contact with the humans.
The Alien leader, Aegis Dinakat promised to restore the scarred earth to its former glory. Calling themselves the Albanons, the aliens were themselves victims of a massive world war. Their planet was however destroyed in the conflict that befell their planet. The aliens used their technology to reestablish the economies of certain countries. The displaced aliens asked only for refuge in return. The giant Albanon vessels merged to create a floating city-state known as the Albanon Satellite Nation. A year after their arrival the ASN was an officially recognized nation was allowed to join the UDN
Not all nations were restored economically however. Countries such as Eutoria were left out of the Albanon reconstruction plan. In their observations of the earth the aliens had determined that Eutoria was too dangerous to restore. Because of the war Eutoria started, the nation was considered to be a threat to humans and Albanons alike. This did not sit well with Alexi Dukov, the new president and son of Mikhail Dukov. Young Alexi, the new Eutorian president made great strides to bring Eutoria back into the good graces of the UDN, but the Albanons were not impressed. Alexi Dukov began to call for their dismissal from the UDN council.
Anti Albanon sentiment also began to come from other disenfranchised groups. Despite this, most humans peacefully coexisted with the Albanons. As Alexi continued his campaign against the Albanons in the UDN council, attacks against Albanon settlements began to occur. In the beginning, the attacks were small and seemingly unrelated. As time went on, the attacks became larger and more aggressive. The UDN peacekeeping forces were no match for the unknown attackers. The unknown assailants seemed to be better equipped and more trained than regular bandits.
To prevent any further bloodshed Aegis called for the return of any Albanon settlers to the Albanon Seattleite Nation. Many Albanons heeded the call of their leader but the most militant stayed on earth. The UDN established a small protective group to ensure the safety of these stalwart settlers. Infuriated by the defiance, the bandits continued their attacks and vowed to not end them until all Albanon people had left the planet forever. The UDN forces were powerless to stop the bandits who seemed to be getting stronger in each attack. Nedulas called his people to take up arms. President Buelling, the leader of the UDN, called out to Neil Tucker a mercenary captain to help end the threat and capture the bandits.

Just to nitpick, was the creator of the armor named Edwin Schulz or von Heinz? :-)
Nice "future history", though.
