Blog post
One year ago I bought 3D Game Studio. My first game creation software.
Never really gotten around to using it. I found my way to Torque and been here ever since.

Today I decided that I want play alittle bit with it. I went upgraded the software to the latest version I could get. When I finished building my level I went to test it. Only to find that it was a trial version. Knowing that i paid for the software. My name and Pops up everytime i run the engine. I did some research on the forum.

Most post said I needed my keyfile. Which i did not keep on my pc after i used it the first time, I just saved the email. So I went back to the email that conitec(the makers of 3DGS) had sent me to download my keyfile. The site was sold or now a home loan site. :(:(:(

So I did research on how to get my keyfile back, and I found out that i have to pay $25 to get key sent to me!!!!

Aint that some Crap????

I know i should have made a backup of the file. But thought that i could just keep the email.

AnyWay I am just ranting in my blog today cause i'm ticked.I'm not going to pay $25 to use a program i already bought. And is almost exactly the same as realityfactory, irrlicht, and genesis3d, which are all free!

Thankyou GG for not using keyfiles, and doing things in a much more organized way, and not being as money hungry like those conitec people.

As for me if I ever ever ever ever use a program that uses keyfiles I will be sure to make a backup copy of it.

...........hmm.....hmmm............$25 for a keyfile.....................Fudge that!

Money hungry people over there.

3d Game Studio has been getting bad reviews lately anyway.

Its a shitty program. Still, you lost important data. And if you pay for software and loose that kind of stuff I don't see the problem really.

I would still assume that they would email me when they are bout to change/delete the link to a keyfile.

yeah i knew it wasnt all that good when i first bought it. Thats why I stopped.

I believe the $25 is an upgrade fee. owners of the previous versions of 3dGS have to pay an upgrade fee to upgrade to the latest version of the engine. actually, this is similar to torque owners who had to do the same thing to upgrade to version 1.5. so the torque people actually are just as money hungry as the conitec people. =)

nope they told me "we get to many people who lose their keys so we charge $25 for a new key."

Torque is NOT money hungry. They create a superb update, and release it for a few more bucks. You can not complain with Torque.

It is best to make a backup disc.

Yeah the same thing happened to me. DirectToDrive key file expired for some reason, and when I went to download it again they wouldn't let me even though I paid $20 US for the game - they denied that I'd bought it, even though I gave them serial numbers, and had a valid account.

Rule of thumb... back up your key files!!!!!

well after talking to some people on the site, they told me how to get the key back maybe it will work.
That would be nice.
Maybe a happy ending to the story
