I wrote another article with Ben Garney and it is now up on gamedev:

This one is about design insights gleaned from "wacky sports" titles. It also contains fancy mouse-over animated images.

In one of our early drafts, the paragraph discussing the entertainment benefits of adding anti-personnel mines to the standard baseball diamond contained a link to this PSA: youtube.com/watch?v=LWZkuXwPVx0. We then referenced this later on by using the same link text but lamented the fact that there was no equivalent PSA for piledriving. Pure comedic genius if you ask me, but the editor at game dev did not think it was "appropriate" or whatever to make fun of blowing up children. So if the article seems like it's short two tasteless jokes, it's because it is.

Here one of the many fancy images that we used in the article:

^^^ Note: this game is not as awesome as it looks.

I am reminded of a SNES game that was a soccer platformer. More than just adding wackyness they used the soccer ball device to add intriguing gameplay that made the game truly unique from another SMB-clone. Great concept for an article and nice writeup. GameDev is great, keep posting those articles!
