On our current project, (which we are not quite ready to announce just yet.) I decided to scrap all previous player models, as I was not happy with them. So this time around I took a new approach, to my character design. I am this time, happy with the final product. As I feel it matches our art direction more accurately.

The above posted image gives you subtle hints, to what the game MIGHT be about, or does it? Also I have included a couple links to high res model sheets (below).

@Steve -- your spoiling it for everyone ... now they don't have to wait till release to see it ... ACK!

Ok, bad jokes aside ... nice work as always, I especially love being flipped off by the evil monkey ... yay!

Oh and, for those who haven't seen all of his "WIP" screens ... this model has progressed very well, the original player models were a bit stale for the specific direction we were going for, and then Steve pulled this out of thin air and I almost cried ... yup, thats right, -ALMOST- cried ...

I did have a small heart attack when I first loaded the image "full res" ... haha, wasn't expecting the model to be so good and so ugly at the same time :)

That is really awesome...

I was reading that note, thinking it was a little peculiar. I figured it was a project for a game, but why would the author take a picture of himself and put it right beside the note.

Then I realized that the face IS A RENDER! Thats AMAZING! Seriously, if you can get that into torque looking that nice... Wow. Good work!

Steve, don't kidd us.
This is a Poser rendered face.
The ingame model is only 500 polys and looks ugly.

BTW: isn't that Obiwan Kenobi during an infiltration mission? ;-)

Hey Guys;

Thanks for all the kind words. It is a great feeling when people accept and enjoy your work. Makes it all worth while.

@Stephan: That's not a poser model hahaha it is the actual game model, I use Maya 8.5. He is a total of 3000 poly.
@Griffin: Thats not even my face... THANK GOD :) Also the second pic below (full body shots) were rendered in Torque Show Tool Pro. So with a good card it shows what he will look like.

Also I dunno why, but he scares or creeps most people out hahahahaha glad he has that effect ;)

Thanks again guys take care.

Wow ... nice response thus far ... Steve, you should post an "up close" shot of the face in TSTP ...

I've seen this model in TGE, and it really does look amazing ... not as great as the maya rendering, but it does look really smooth and nice, and still has the 'realism' factor ...

@David: Good idea, here is a close up image of him in Torque Show Tool Pro:

I finally took time to read the letter close to the face render.

This guy seems too nice in his facial expression compared to the letter he's supposed to have written.
Eyes don't have the "bad"/"out of my way" expression they require, neither do the mouth IMHO.
I think eyes would need to be closed to look like more stretched maybe.
You should figure these guys are constantly estimating the present situation and glancing right and left to check for threats and escapes. You don't do it eyes full open.

Nice work.

This guy looks like he's a career rapist. Great job Steve!!

Todd Pickens   (Feb 09, 2007 at 00:50 GMT)
Great job! ...nice monkey. LOL

@Stephan -- adding expression to artwork like this actually takes away from it, in my opinion -- having the stale 'blank expression' allows the gamer to have a bit more imagination -- also, keep in mind, the models facial expressions are not animated, therefore, whatever expression he has, hes stuck with ... through the entire game ...

Adding "expression" tends to make the model look dumb after hours of gameplay ... where as, with a blank expression, it's more or less negligible --

Also, when you see this guy running up behind you with a glock ... I don't think his lack of expression will be the thing that your worried about ;)

Anyhow, thats just my two cents on the matter ;)

Geez, I can't even tell which is a reference or which is a model. You da man for modelling.

@Jeppie, heh ... if it helps, thats all model ... ;)

Looks like the project could turn into GTA4 - Trailer Park Anarchy. Nice work, it looks eerily photorealistic.

Stephan (viKKing) Bondier   (Feb 09, 2007 at 08:00 GMT)
@David: sure

but... wait... look at the pictures...
ut that hood back on your head David!
we know who you are! ;-)
