Our post-apocalyptic online game, Survival:Wastelands, has recently gone through a complete redesign and development has once again begun on the latest version. We've moved away from a pure MMORPG game design to something very unique, which could be described as a merger of MMO gameplay (such as WoW) and Online Shooter gameplay (such as Quake Wars or CoD4). The result is a coherent world with a strong backstory: a sense of why these battles are taking place, and why we are fighting.

The gameplay centers around global strategy. The world has been devastated by another world war, and the few resources left on the world are being fought for visciously. Military bases, production and research facilities, ports, and more are all being assaulted by the game's two factions. The more of these locations controlled by your faction, the more benefits you receive.

This image shows the West faction's base at Key City, with some ports (and illustrated supply lines) and research facilities to the west.

Players choose one of the two main factions: East (primarily comprised of Russia, China, Syria, Iran and North Korea) or West (primarily comprised of the US, Britain, Israel, France and Germany). Players also choose one of the 12 combat specializations (aka classes) grouped into four combat divisions: Scout, Tech, Assault and Support. Then they roll out into the field and rank up from Private all the way to Supreme Commander, with more missions, equipment and battlezones opening up along the way.

We are using a combination of technologies starting with TGEA, and adding more with elements from Dreamrpg's Mmokit and BFT packages. This game will feature persistant battlefields and characters, a military system for character development and progression, and an extensive battlefield arsenal of weapons, vehicles and deployables.

This image shows early development on Key City using our modular road system.

Our new concept and new technology has caused Survival:Wastelands to be reborn bigger and better than ever. The team is very excited to be working on such a solid project. I'll certainly continue to post more as development continues. Stay tuned. :)

Our team is looking for more:
Engine Programmer - Familiar with TGEA
Script Programmer - Familiar with TGEA's scripting language
GUI Programmer - Familiar with TGEA's GUI capabilites
Network Programmer - Familiar with getting TGEA to talk to online databases
Web Developer - To create the game's portal site, which functions as an extension of the game.
3D Artist - To create a variety of in-game assets.
