Blog post
Hi, here at Digital Shock. We are considering in making a new TGEA character pack, with the next gen look. We are now asking you, as the owners whether or not you feel that a pack like this is worth buying, or whether or not we should just stick with a TGE character package.

Here is a shot of Gears of War, as many of you gamers may already know about. We plan/thinking about launching a package both environment and character package, that will have this same feel and quality. Please let me know thank you.

Modelled that we previously did( Pending ):

Considering it would be pretty dumb seeing games actually use the content in a commercially released game (Imagine 5 different FPSes released publicly utilizing the same exact character), the money you make will only be made off of those using it for reference, or for those who are new and just want to grab a pre-made character to slap into their game and then eventually realize they won't want to make a character in their game be one that's available from a pre-made content pack.

Make it if you want; you'll get buyers, just not those who are looking to make a commercially published boxed game.

Most of the independent games developed here aren't boxed and sold in a store anyway. Of all the content packs you see, many of them have good work, but how many actually get used on a shipped game? Part of that may be because of them wanting unique work, but it is also because 95% of the indie games started never get finished (probably a higher number). Games like Minions of Mirth though made a lot of use of content packs. I'd guess the main reason you don't see it is just because the games using them never get finished in most cases.

These packs arent meant for commercial uses. these packs plan to release affordable TGEA place holder character packs. I am not looking or gearing these models for commercial use at all. I just thought that TGEA needed its own unique set of enviroment and character pack.

Just make it, this is always good for the community to have choice between content packs and it would be good simply to show what TGEA can do with good graphics.

One thing that has been stated in previous comments, people here use content packs as placeholder, that means they're not looking for perfect quality, they're looking for something close to their project. My point is that to achieve similar result as GoW, you'll spend a lot of time and you'll need to sell it at a pretty expensive price to earn some money. My guess is that the need is a bit different here, you should look more into something efficient rather than eye-candy and offer it at a decent price. This is the whole thing into content packs market, you need to find the right quality/price ratio.
Your actual project seems to work in that way.

I'd be interested in a character pack (could use them for place holder characters).

I think the biggest thing that would attract people to a TGEA character pack is documentation, if you bring it to the level that the Jill Pack is, but with some of the features of the Soldier Pack (like in Game GUI for changing objects connected to the mounting points and character textures) it would be really useful. But thats just my two cents.

I think these will make good content pack characters. As long as all the source is included and the textures and mesh can be modified the owners will be able to mod characters to look individual enough. Make sure the source is in Lightwave as well please :)

I definitely wuld like to buy it if the source files will be included and if licensed to modify it... also if probably I'll never ship a game, it's just a passion here ;-P
I definitely would like to pay something more if bundled with some tutorials about the making of it...

;)
