Hard at work here at Big Bad Robots. We finally got most of the 4 levels we wanted for stage 1 complete and have started to add some special effects to the environment. My initial pass at putting down proper gameplay for our levels didn't go too well as the game ended being too hard for most people. When your down in the trenches, it's hard to figure out a proper gameplay scale.

My second pass seems better, and we are gameplay testing it right now with a few people to give us a basis for measurement. Alot of design work remains, with the new weapons we want to add to the game plus the next pre-production design for the next few stages. It is hard to find good testers as everybody is an expert when it comes down to gameplay but getting QA testers being able to getdown to specifics are even harder.

I leave you with a screenshot. It's a generator, in game it is animated (the electric sparks that is).

Looking good. Like the artwork and special effects - it's the finishing touches (making the game alive) that adds value to the gameplay.

Looking very nice as usual, Terence. One thought I had was that thanks to the font in your HUD, it gives it a western feel. Not western as in direction, but rather in a John Wayne, cowboys and indians kinda western.

Cheers!

The art in this game makes it feel very much like a game should, it's amazing how hard it is to get that balance between realism and fantasy that makes the content feel fun and game like. Very nice work.

The game does have a western feel, it's a game about a bunch of intergalactic bounty hunters after all. Big fan of Serenity and all;P

Gameplay wise we are going for a mix action top down shooter with RPG elements (You get 3 characters, each with varying skill sets which you can upgrade. You also get to upgrade your weapons that you collect). The balance between how hard to make the game is the tricky bit plus the amount of content to generate (We are after all right now only 3 people, and I find it silly to generate content that does add gameplay..i.e. if you go through the generator sparks you get damage...this generator is in a enclosed fight area).

The frame rate is fairly decent still, but could be improved as well. getting above 30FPS on a fairly slow Ti4200. We need to do some optimizations and also looking at do some preformance option groups (i.e. if you have a better specced machine, you can turn options on/off)

Thanks guys;P
