Simian Escape Released with Source Code!
Last Straw Productions is proud to present our first in-house title Simian Escape!

Last Straw's flagship game, Simian Escape hurls the player into the life of a caveman painting. Try to stay in the torchlight in this 2D scroller or be erased from existence. Dodge or throw rocks to kill various monsters trying to stop your journey on the cave wall to survive. Simian Escape features multiplayer support and hours of addictive gameplay. Simian Escape was built with the TorqueX Engine and ships with full game logic source code.

Simian Escape requires Game Studio Express to build and debug source code for Simian Escape. TorqueX Source Code is not included, but all game logic source code is along with the TGBX compliant TorqueX Scene files.

Congrats! I checked this out at iMGDC and people seemed to love it :) Catchy tunez too!

Cool, just bought it, cant wait to check out the code!

Hmm. this seems to be lacking something... Screenshots, it looks interesting, but I couldn't even find screenshots on your site (you'd definitely sell more if you had more screenies in my opinion), are there any more screenshots?

Anyhow, congrats on the completion & release, this could be a very useful resource to learning torqueX. :0)

@Dave & Sean - Thank you for your support!

@Leroy - The website has been neglected I'll admit. We can get some more screens online. Basically the first 'round' of sales were going to be focused more for those who want to obtain the source over actually play the game (which is a damn fun game even if I am biased ;))

Last Straw has been really swamped with work recently, so I'll try to get someone on the website soon. Thanks for the tip!

Congrats. I played this while at IMGDC and it was a blast.

@Jonathon Stevens

Any chance of a video of gameplay? I can't really figure out what the game is. I see your description above and I've looked at screens on your website, but I can't understand what you do in the game from the description and screenshots.

Congrats on completing the game!!

@Anton - thanks. hmm. let me see what I can work out. I have FRAPS but every like 10 seconds = very large size. Anyone know a good recording package that doesn't make your vids enormous?

Jonathon, try the VirtualDub - free, but really good software for re-compression (and quick editing) of movies. You can specify both - the audio and video codecs to use.

edit: it works fine to convert FRAPS avi's, used it many times - works perfectly.

@Aun - Thanks!

@Everyone - The site has been updated with more screenshots. I'll work on getting a game play video up this weekend.

Nice one Jonathon. I like the unique art style (even if it causes a need for an explanation of what type of game it is) and the the Text input component looks handy dandy! Now I just need a 360, a Live id and a Creators Club license, any offers anyone? :P

Jonathon Stevens   (Jun 19, 2007 at 12:47 GMT)
@Leroy - Thank you. You don't need a 360 to play Simian Escape. It is a Windows game.

Leroy Frederick   (Jun 19, 2007 at 15:31 GMT)
I know, I just meant in terms of really taking advantage of the source code, although I'm sure it's great game in it's own right ;)

Jonathon Stevens   (Jun 19, 2007 at 16:06 GMT)
So get it and find out :P

Leroy Frederick   (Jun 19, 2007 at 16:13 GMT)
I'll get yours if you get mines ;)
