Blog post
The other day i was checking up on an old MUD like game i used to play when i was younger. Realms of Kaos. I posted a poll about what everyone thought about a second attempt at making it 3d.
Amoungst the heated discussion a random thought poped into my head.

This comment showed up.
"rough quote": But with text you can do anything, you can dance in the middle of the room if you wanted to. We couldnt do that with 3d.

This got me thinking, torque doesnt yet support true procedural animation ( i think) so what if you were to cheat. keeping the game a half text based system you would move a number of steps based on which direction you went in.
-----> Command entered : North
This would move you say five steps to the north of the character. (compass would be static)

So threw text in a 3d game you can do anything by linking bits of text with animation snips threw dsq's. (simple animations)

so if you typed a special action character like /me (was the command for actions in RoK)
-----> Command entered : /me eat soup
would show up in chat (name) is eating soup
then the character would call basic animations eat (character hold utensil and does a scouping motion to mouth)
and soup calls a bowl with a dingy water in it.

I know this is kind of an odd idea, but it could work.
I always thought a 3d MUD would be cool.

But its just a thought, and I have no idea how hard it would be to script this.
