Un-Official GarageGames Weekly .Plan Highlights by Anton Bursch Week of October 30th - November 5th, 2005
intro
WOW. This week's plans were... astounding!! I am so impressed that I am sure that I must have sweared in excitement at least 100 times or more while reading thru these! If ya go to hell for swearing... I'll be seeing you there, cause, you are going to swear alot when you read thru these plans. Cause they are just swear worthy! Way to go to everyone who posted .plans this week!! Keep them coming!
[edit]
Also, I want to tell you guys something. I write these plan highlights to help promote everyone and their work and part the reason I do that is to make sure no body's plan gets overlooked. Well, I have to say that from what I have gathered from reading plans that this effort is mostly for the benefit of the community members and not the GG team. Not to say that I don't try to promote the GG team's plans, but to say that the people who are getting the most benefit from reading these highlights is not the GG team. See... what I have gathered from comments in these plans is that the GG team already read all of these plans. And especially, Jeff Tunnell. I have seen his comments on plans that NO ONE else has commented on. He and the rest of the GG team are very interested in what you are doing. That just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Knowing that they care enough to pay attention to what we are doing. Even more than we do. I just wanted to say Thank you, GG team for doing that. And I wanted to tell the rest of you about this so you can hear how important you are to the GG team. This really is a community of dreams. Where else do you get this kind of love and dedication? I don't know. Thanks again, GG team. Everyone else, let's keep on making our dreams come true!

Chris Labombard - The Funk is moving along at light speed

Chris won't be in this community for long. He's going to catch some big ass company's eye and get scooped up and abandon us. :( Until then, we get to watch and marvel.
Anton Bursch - Un-Official GarageGames Weekly .Plan Highlights by Anton Bursch Week of October 23th - 29nd, 2005
For the record... this is the most fun I've had in game development since I started. I really love doing this. I have always been excited to see what is going on in this community and I LOVE talking about it. I love bragging about what you are doing. I hope you all enjoy reading it. I am trying to make it as enjoyable and easy to read as I can. I am experimenting a bit here and there while finding the best way to promote everyone. If you feel I am not doing a good enough job, let me know what you think I could do better. I have used most of the ideas I have been told so far.
Also, if you have noticed I am putting up your synopsis of your plan beside your name. Don't forget that beyond being a synopsis of your plan... that is your chance to promote your plan to get people to read it. So, say stuff about your plan that you think will attract other people to reading it. It's there for you to share. Get people interested in you. Thanks again. Good luck on your plans. :)
Oh, and pictures and videos and sound files are a gooooood thing to include if you can.
Also, if you want me to know what you are working on so I can have a head start on talking about it in the plan recap, send me an email. I want to help make sure everyone knows about you and your work. So, if you can help me do that, even better for you.
Good luck!!
Phil Carlisle - This last week I've really been delving into the karmic side of game development. Having been on somewhat of a downer for most part of the month. As usual with games and programming, things are struggling against me in a huge effort to thwart my best plans.
Gary Haussmann - Yet another AI-related post

Well, a lack of AI developers is not a problem in this community anymore! :)
Andrew Nicholson - Last week I made the decision to go it alone:
Andrew, fantastic plan! For those of you thinking about starting your own game studio company, check this out. It's great.
Brett Fattori - Slow month, lazy coding, reading a lot...
LOL!!! This is definitely one of the funniest plan I've ever read around here!! You gotta read the Halo 2 story. It'll make you laugh. Well, maybe. If you are still bitter from a similar experience, then it might just make you mad.
Tom Bampton - SunBurn continued, including screenshots and a re-enactment movie of the Boston Tea Party!

Tom Bampton's... that feels so weird to say. TomB's Game in a Day is coming along well. Here are some comments about the game.
Ajari Wilson
I like how you have the American ships winning over the British in most of the pics. Very realistic. :p
Tom Bampton
Yes, that simulates the annoying way in which they sunk all our tea. If you watch the movie, we actually win ;-)
Eric Elwell
Yeeeus!!!! Show those brits what we're made of, Yeah!!!!! That's what I like to call an opened can of Americano!!... wait... we had ships??
Tom Bampton
Eric, I dont actually know ;-) Ships were the only units i had to hand for placeholder and the brit vs america thing kinda reminded me about the boston tea party.
Melv May
Up with the british! Today is a good day to die!
Craig Ball
I say old chap, that scoundrel is firing on our ships. Thats really not on, tiffin will just have to wait.
Bring me the mustache starch, Jeeves. (*cue monacle dropping in glass of sherry*)
Mark Berry
Having our 'merkin buddies as pirates, isnt a political statement now is it? :-)
Josiah Wang
Actually, I don't think the US had a navy during the revolution...the French helped teh Americans for the most part...and then we backstabbed >_>
brings back memories of starcraft...
Tom Bampton
Ah well, who said games had to be accurate ? ;-)
Midhir
Look, Goerge W. Bush is a pirate....my god, am I surprised. *sarcasm*

of interest

I saw the movie Jarhead, a true story about a team of Marine snipers in the first Gulf War. It is brilliant. How brilliant? Well.
It has a 53% rating on www.rottentomatoes.com. What is most interesting to me about this fact is that this split down the middle rating shows how wonderful this film really is. It doesn't play to an audience. It is just a true story. And it's interesting from start to finish.
You know how we all complain that we wish for games that take chances and reach for greatness even if it means losing the mass audience. But not in a RockStar let's break any ol' taboo and call ourselves daring kind of way. We want honesty and integrity. We want games that aren't afraid to be themselves. Not games that pretend to be themselves and are really just shock value counter marketing. That's why many of you make indie games.
This movie is that honest and brave movie. It doesn't tell you anything you wouldn't have already guessed about war. It just tells the story of the soldiers who were there and it doesn't pull punches and it doesn't exploit either. It just is. And it's perfect.
Every scene is shot beautifully. Every sound is amazing. Every performance is true and gripping.
I give it an A++. 5 stars out of 5. Go see this movie!! Then go make a game this good!
