My long-term plan has taken root ever since my meditations on Vivendi's burial of the once-glorious Tribes series.
Once I heard the updates on Febuary 12th, I realized that Vivendi may be folding their hand all too soon, with Microsoft's release of the Xbox360 in November of this year, an entirely new era of gaming will open up for the public. Especially in the respective areas of customization, and high-occupant FPS capabilities.
My latest news is my personal contact at Fasa/Microsoft games is working to try and get an appointment set up for a business proposition that, optimally, would bring back the Dynamix Team, or what we can of it, and start development of a new breed of Tribes, should Vivendi decide to license the game out for development again.
The trick will be negotiating the release of the license, so that Microsoft can fund and publish the game, instead of Vivendi. I believe that the Vivendi company is now run by people in suits, instead of in the hands of gamers that understand what makes a game works.
I attribute Microsoft as being the most qualified sponser in the sense that, from what my contact tells me, is a business that will put the development, funds, effort, and time into the hands of the gamers, and not the accountants.
This, combined with the new ideas I have spent months thinking through, and the veterans of Dynamix, may well breath new and revitalizing life into the Tribes series, making it possibily one of the best games ever developed, while keeping the heart and soul of the game where it always was: With the player.
I am currently working with individuals in Microsoft, before further contacts, and plans are made. Jeff Tunnell, Rick Overman, Tim Gift, ad Mark Frohnmayer would all be incredibily instrumental with their contacts at Sierra, and with Tribes being their baby, to the success of this almost religious endeavor.
If you'd like to discuss my designs, and throw in your own comments and questions, in addition to the blog here, my AIM name is Nihilus8i.

Vivendi tried to replace Jeff, Rick, Tim, and Mark, and failed miserably. Even though Irrational is an extremely qualified dev team, they still couldn't capture back that feel of Tribes.
If GG was to make a community based project, I think that it would be something that was a back-burner project, much like Lucas Arts' Armed and Dangerous.

Like I said, I dunno how well it will fly with the head honchos, but so far, a few of the devs at M$ have raised their ears to it, hence why I'm trying to get a hold of the Director of Development.
